Small Crimes - Not sure/10

Think I need another watch of this as it doesn't feel like one thing or another, but I did enjoy the way it was shot and the overall story. I just can't decide if it's just a copy of History of Violence or a good film in its own way.

Six Days - 4/10

The story of an 80s seige on the Iranian embassy in London. Lacked focus, tried to do way too much in 90 minutes and would probably have worked better as a 3 part mini series.

Also Jamie Bell's attempt at a moustache was hilarious and distracting from his otherwise decent take on the young guy trying to prove himself against jaded macho lunatics.

I watched that a few days ago, those moustaches deserved their own place in the credits.

5/10 from me.

My professional opinion - WTF ??????

3/10 - and that's only because they picked the perfect actor for Dr Jekyll (let's face it - he didn't even have to act)

Mikey and Nicky. A hoodlum buddy movie I'd never heard of with Peter Falk and John Cassavetes as longtime friends on the run from the mob, who have put out a contract on Cassavetes's character - not surprisingly given the way he's played: petty, self-centered, selfish and generally an all round PITA. Written and directed by Elaine May, she's given it a touchingly sensitive take on the relationship - and the other relationships encountered en route - and is ultimately a rather sweet and melancholy tale of smalltime lives gone awry. 7/10 and change.

Predestination.

A pile of complicated pap. Dislocated plot, Ethan Hawk grunting like a fat man on the loo. Not good.

Saved only by the rather delicious Sarah Snook, who's presence drags it back to a mighty..

3/10.

Hard Boiled - John Woo at his wooiest. Blimey. There were one or two moments where I'll swear no-one was shooting. Made Saving Private Ryan look like an episode of The Magic Roundabout. I quite enjoyed it, in a brainless kind of way.

Thor: Ragnarok - Dare I say the best of the standalone Thor films so far? The influence of Guardians of the Galaxy is clear to see as this one is definitely more comedic in feel and tone, and it plays fast and loose with Nordic mythology, but it works - it's nonsense, but it's funny and it's entertaining.
Actually, I'm going to go so far and say it's the best instalment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a long time. Don't forget to stay right until the end of the credits though. ;) 8/10

Nocturnal Animals
- blimey, this is NSFW right from the off isn't it? I'm glad our telly faces away from the window...
That said, this is a really intense slow burning film that intertwines three threads and keeps you totally focussed throughout. I'm not normally one for films that are rated so highly by critics, but this one delivers and is worthy of all the praise it received. Although definitely not one to sit down and watch with the family at Christmas. 8/10

Local film club showed The Draughtsman's Contract, the Meyer twins were in attendance (in mufti) and gave us a brief introduction which was fun.

It's a great film, Peter Greenaway put together a visual treat with witty and sharp dialogue, the story is intriguing and also very funny, Michael Nyman's music is superb. It's a real treat and a favourite of mine.

Atomic Blonde

Stylish Cold War spy thriller with James McEvoy and Charlize Theron set in Berlin as the wall comes down. Great soundtrack and some realistic looking fight scenes with Theron. One of the things I really like about her is, despite being stunningly beautiful, she's not afraid to look "ugly" in films (ie in Monster).
