Pan's Labyrinth screened in some dungeons in Bristol for a halloween horror film night. Not actually seen it before but aware it was well regarded. Brilliant film, visually stunning, very dark and quite harrowing in places and makes you think and wonder. 9/10 certainly

Inception. Eh? $160 million's worth of big explosions and excellent CGI demonstrating once and for all how to be nonsensical, meaningless and painfully pretentious on 'three different levels' all at the same time. 8.8 on IMDB. I say again, eh?
Yes it's dreadful isn't it? Wish I could get a refund on 2 and half hours of my life lost
The Impossible - tsunami movie with Ewan Mcgregor.

I have seen many films with hundred dying, sometimes per minute, but there was a sort of realism to this film that fairly got to me, nearly switched it off at one point as I was finding it difficult to watch. So clearly a very well made film that sort of hit home with me.
9/10
Yeah there are some films like this I just cannot watch.Gory horror movies don't really rock my boat either.
I may be explained that wrong - it wasn't gory stuff with lots of blood and guts, nothing like that, I guess many might think it quite tame. It just had a sort of realism to it that I found a bit disturbing.
Yeah but I do know what you mean.

Started to watch The Machinist but Christian Bale's horrific appearance made to look away.

Baby Driver (2017).......Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, action film, very interesting film, clever use of music, some good action but the plot-story went a bit stupid later on, I enjoyed it but not as much as I hoped to........... 6.5/10
ditto.... the tension from the outset kept going for two thirds of the film... it's great, then it began to tail off into Hollywood silliness. The actual ending (after the action) was good though. Still only 6/10 i reckon.

I think this was a calling card movie. Now he's directing Marvel movies.

Patton.

Starring George C. Scott, one of my favourite actors.

Great performance, excellent script. The true tale of a hard driving and genuinely heroic soldier who was already a little beyond his time in terms of outlook on society. Portrays Montgomery as the strategically very lucky twot that those who weren't start struck always described him to be.

Nevertheless, a great tale that deserved telling.

9/10. Mesmerising.

Just come back from watching Thor Ragnarok. Not much of a storyline but the amount of movie/actor references, references and punchlines poking fun at other movies/actors, cameos from actors who you'd least expect Its surprisingly good watch.

In terms of comedy value Its somewhere along the lines of Guardians of The Galaxy 2 level that peaks off at deadpool level of greatness at times. Really subtle jokes and references makes it a good movie to take your kids to.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - the latest and final(?) instalment of the greatest ever film franchise based on a video game (Wiki: with six films released, the Resident Evil film series is the highest-grossing film series to be based on a video game of all time, having grossed over $1.233 billion worldwide). Doesn't disappoint, much stylised kicking of zombie ass, improbable fight scenes and references to earlier episodes. Not the greatest of the series (that would be Resident Evil: Afterlife) but always watchable and brings things together nicely. But is it really the end...? 8/10

The Hunstman: Winters War - I thought the original Snow White and The Huntsman was a bit average, but many reviewers have said this is a much better film so I decided to give it a go.
They were wrong.
Once you get past Thor having an iffy Oirish accent (presumably to ensure everyone watching realises that he's not actually Thor in this film) and Emily Blunt playing the same character she seems to play in every film, it feels like a very generic CGI heavy muddle. It's also surprisingly crude in places for a 12 certificate. 4/10

The Four Days of Naples - Italian movie about the Germans' last four days occupying Naples and the resistance of the locals who wanted shot of them. A breathless pace from start to finish, multiple sub-plots, many slightly ragged and ultimately unresolved - intentionally, you suspect, and meant to convey the haphazardness of war - great cinematography, making the most of the post-war Neapolitan landscape, and fine performances from the cast of hundreds, most of whom had by all accounts never acted in their lives. 'Was that really two hours?' Straight into my war movie top ten.
