Did you like it? I regarded the original as one of the best science fictions of the 90s (haven't seen it for a while, so maybe it doesn't hold up.) I couldn't even sit through the whole trailer of the remake. It's pretty egregious whitewashing.

Ironically enough, most of the whitewashing accusations came from white people. Mamoru Oshii was cool with it, which is good enough for me.

It's a pretty good take on the story. Ditches a lot of the philosophy which is a shame, and the "twist" at the end is ridiculous, but visually it's awesome.

The Best Years of Our Lives - an oddity this one. Not least because I stumbled across it, never having heard of it, and was subsequently amazed to discover that it muscled the wonderful 'It's a Wonderful Life' out of the 1947 Oscars, winning eight, against IAWL's zero. Which is crazy. Because it turned out to be a very good movie, about three post-WW2 veterans, returning to life in smalltown America: genuinely touching, well acted, a fine piece of film-making. But a good film. As opposed to the stonewall movie masterpiece that is It's a Wonderful Life. Oh well, there never was any accounting for (Academy) tastes...

I thought the name Mamoru Oshii sounded familiar! One of my prized DVDs in my collection at home is the film Avalon, one of his films. Definitely worth a watch if you've never seen it (or even if you already have). :okay:

Waiting for this ...............

Spaceballs.

This Mel Brooks film seems to have aged better than most, especially the Rick Moranis/Dark Helmet bits.

Interesting - I don't like it much, I think the writers didn't have the affinity for the material that they showed in Blazing Saddles, and the spoof suffers as a result. I may need to rewatch it.

Agreed.

Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein for me.

Alien Covenant. It's an entertaining film but I couldn't help but feel it was a remake of Alien and Aliens but with a cyborg with a God complex thrown into the mix. That said there's plenty of action and scary monsters to keep your attention.
