'When you first saw it?'

the Warriors.is a minor masterpiece only masquerading as an exploitation movie. Well worth repeat viewing. Base on, I think, Xenaphon if I'm not mistaken

Clueless

It should have you grinding your teeth at the vacuity of the protagonists, and their various non-problems, but is so good natured and fun that its impossible not to be swept along by it.

Frozen

I've seen this before, but stopped to watch it with Mrs M and the youngest, who had it as their Sunday night film. Really nicely done little thriller/horror - worth catching if you've not seen it, and I think its on Amazon Prime currently.

Taken 3 which is just a standard Taken film and Inception which I can't decide if it was good or complete tosh.

Inception is good, but was made out to be a lot "cleverer" than it is. I was expecting some mind boggling puzzle when I watched it, but it's a pretty simple affair.

I like Christopher Nolan - he's got a great eye and sets a scene beautifully, but his best films are still his first two; Following and Memento. Although I do have reservations about Memento, the special edition I have of it includes the film played chronologically rather than backwards. And it's rubbish. However, if he realised that and then knackered the timeline to make an absolute cracker of a film then the dude's a genius.

I watched a favourite of mine last night - Pi - 9/10

A mathematical genius comes up with the theory that the stock market (amongst other things) can be predicted by the number. He's exploited and driven insane by people and migraines. Also has an absolutely belting soundtrack, which you'd expect from Clint Mansell.

It's a brilliantly philosophical film which benefits from being watched multiple times.

Apparently the bit where Max drills a hole in his head wasn't faked. Ultimate method acting.

Lot o' people seem to think so. Baffling...to me at least. I think you're right that it's a Xenophon rip-off, tho' I believe the dungarees were an innovation.

The Warriors is based on Sol Yurick's book.

So it's a rip off of a rip off.

Still a cracking film though IMO.

Gripping, plausible, grim, morally complex.
Outstanding performances from Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro (no surprise there) and Josh Brolin.
8/10

The Assassin. The first martial arts film I have ever seen, although it's more Tao emptiness than fisticuffs. A female assassin in ninth century China follows her own road, very slowly. Slower than cobbles in the rain. Understanding the philosophy would help; the clues on the screen are inscrutable to an outsider like me. Reeds bend, goats chew. People don't get assassinated. 110 measured minutes could have been edited down to 10. If all Kung Fu flicks are as reluctant as The Assassin, it could be the last one. I hope there's a sequel. 8/10.
