Killer Elite.

Jason Statham as an assassin killing ex SAS men, and Clive Owen as an ex SAS man trying to kill him.

Entertaining in a bang bang, boom boom kind of way.

A bigger bang than my assassin then.

ETA: That two minute 30 trailer contains all the action in the film. The remaining 107.5 minutes of footage are distilled into a painting rather than a movie. A film to be looked at rather than watched.

The Assassin. The first martial arts film I have ever seen, although it's more Tao emptiness than fisticuffs. A female assassin in ninth century China follows her own road, very slowly. Slower than cobbles in the rain. Understanding the philosophy would help; the clues on the screen are inscrutable to an outsider like me. Reeds bend, goats chew. People don't get assassinated. 110 measured minutes could have been edited down to 10. If all Kung Fu flicks are as reluctant as The Assassin, it could be the last one. I hope there's a sequel. 8/10.
I forget which review show it was, but I remember at least one in which the mis-selling of The Assasin in western markets was bemoaned.

For more action, if you want period drama type stuff, Ip Man is pretty good. If setting is immaterial, Flashpoint starts with an improbable flying armbar that had me hooting with delight. (I'm sure more knowledgable martial arts fans will be along soon).

Dom Hemingway

A memorable opening soliloquy, some wonderful Withnail-esque lines from Richard E Grant and a great performance from Jude Law. On BBC iPlayer

Decided on watching 'Twin Town' with Rhys Ifans, one of is early films from sometime in the 1990's I think?, its about two lads that cause chaos in the local community in the welsh valleys with bent coppers, murder and revenge. Sounds serous?, though it's more comedy

I really loved this film when it came out back in the day though didn't find it as good this time round  Six point five out of ten

Decide on watching 'Borat' a comedy spoof film on a guy from Kazakstan, though apparently it was filmed in Romania? with Sacha Boran Cohen, who goes to America as a journalist I think?. It was funny though the jokes wore thin for me after three quarters of a hour so switched off. Five out of ten.

Maybe its my age that I didnt find it that funny?, rest of the evening was spent catching up with current affairs

Totally agree. The Asassin is a beautiful bit of work let down by lazy advertising which dressed it up as Crouching Tiger.

I can't think of names off the top of my head but there are many similarly thoughtful films which focus on the one fight in the film, missing the nuance of the piece.
