The Martian - not bad, but not worthy of the Oscar buzz imho. Real clunky script in places.

Sicario - decent thriller with some good performances.

Bone Tomahawk - a pleasant surprise, but not for the faint hearted! Good script with some good performances. Richard Jenkins is superb.

Hard to Kill (1990) Steven Seagal as Storm Mason, the cop they just can't kill. Ludicrous story, corny script, bad acting, gratuitous violence, awful in so many ways but brilliant too. Perfect mindless escapism.
"How does feel to know you're about to die?"
6/10

In the words of Barry Norman, "Hard to kill? Impossible, more like."

Bridge of Spies - a remarkable performance from Mark Rylance playing the Soviet spy. Utterly compelling to watch, his naturalistic style and totally convincing Scots accent were the highlights of a pretty good film all in all.
I wouldn't disagree but the real Rudolf Abel was born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne. Rylance plays him as Scottish because, by his own admission, the Geordie the accent is difficult to do. Cracking film.

Thanks, enjoyed that.

I see Russell kept the same moustache for Hateful Eight.

Sad that the better of the two films won't get any attention. Tarantino films becoming increasingly formulaic. Get a lot of people in a room, talk a lot, and then everyone starts shooting.

The Revenant. Brutal. Incredible to look at. Good performances from the lead men.

Just watch Fantastic Four 2015

After the Fantastic Four flop of about the year 2010? I thought Id give this a go and maybe I was over expecting something fantastic, I aint seen the first marvel films adaptions by the way

Well it was OK, a easy watch family movie if you don't mind subjecting your children to the usual violence you get in family entertainment nowadays

Was really disappointed with the Fantastic Four characters adaptation, I thought they'd have worked at them looking like the original Marvel comics though they didnt

I had a Fantastic Four project work in my house from UNI that looked better than this in 2002, the characters were life size

Poor show

7/10 only for easy family entertainment

You can level a lot of criticisms at Tarantino, but I don't think 'formulaic' is one of them. His last three films were Django Unchained, Inglorious Basterds and Death Proof. All pretty unique IMO.

Each to their own, I guess. I find his more recent stuff a bit boring. The one I really enjoyed was Jackie Brown.

on Mark Rylance - I saw a clip of him playing Henry V at the Globe doing the St Crispin's Day speech. He did as a kind of fatalistic gallows humour of a man fully expecting that the next day would be his last and he and his comrades had had it. Wow! Same words different tone of voice. Result was utterly chilling and (I imagine) realistic of men in desperate circumstances. Never saw the live performance but would buy the dvd if they did one. Rylance was actor/director I think An asonishing prerformance. Zoe Wannamaker was the Chorus. Seen some great stuff in the Globe - particularly Henry IV (a double bill) where Falstaff totally stole the show. Also an utterly dreadfull Hamlet, though Ophelia's mad scene was outstanding but no recompense for two hours of dross.

Anyhow will look out for that film given Rylance is in it.

Bridge of Spies.

Wanted to see that yesterday (having cycled over the bridge itself last year) but it had finished its run in our town. So we braved the cold and sub-zero temperatures and biked 20 km to Utrecht for it's final showing there. Our disappointment when we learnt that it had sold out was alleviated by the cinema having Jopen's Ongelovige Thomas beer on tap. A good afternoon in the Kino, 9/10.
