I liked Mel Gibson as Mad Max and before he became a nobber: how doesTom Hardy fare?
Tom gave a very good performance of Max, I thought it was slightly darker character than Mel's.

Well, I saw Fury Road last night and, IMO, what a lot of old tosh!

After 20 mins. the misses asked if we could watch another film instead, but I wanted to see if the film improved: I should have listened to her!

The beginning was a mix of Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings. Stoopid 'story' (a car/lorry/machines on wheels chase, with 'breeders' on the run) and apart from Charlize Theron, the acting was terrible.

The animation was poor. They should have kept to the 'simple' format of the first three Mad Max films and let the filming and environment be shot naturally and with less 'music'/sound, thus creating a more authentic feel. And I would have preferred Australian accents as opposed to American grunts.

Apologies to fans of Fury Road, I'm not criticising your taste or opinion, but it just didn't do it for me.

1/10 - and it only gets one mark because the film actually ended and put me out of my misery.

And I fear there may be a fifth film. :headshake:

 - old git smile.

Finished Jessica Jones today, liked the whole kaboodle. Particularly like the opening credit graphics and music. 8/10

My only concern is that the whole thing is essentially about boyfriend trouble. But then, it wasn't written for middle aged married men, was it?

I didn't care for it much and I'm a big fan of the original, Mad Max 1 is the best IMVHO. Fury Road was nothing like the original films, it just didn't capture the post-apocalyptic bleakness like they did. I was really disappointed when I went to see it after all the glowing reviews. I'm just pleased I saw it on the large screen, as it was a decent eye-fest and little else. On the small screen I could imagine it would be really poor. The only films I liked Mel Gibson in were the first two Mad Max films, after that he was a bit of a tool. I don't get the hype with Tom Hardy, I thought he was totally non-descript in Fury Road, he hardly had any lines. It wasn't a 1/10 for me, probably a 4/10. I don't want to see it again though, and I must of watched Mad Max 1 at least ten times.

Films are subjective though, and I was about 11 when I first saw Mad Max on VHS, that film along with Dawn Of The Dead really blew me away, just with the atmosphere that they set. Younger people will possibly see them as a pile of shoot, but a lot more imagination went into making them than the majority of CGI laden offerings of today. They should possibly stop making remakes, as they are usually poor. The Dawn Of The Dead remake in 2004 stands out to me as one of the better ones, but it still is a long way off the original.

Black Mass - 5/10

Cracking cast let down by a poor script and a story that's not particularly interesting. Similar tales have been done much better.

Ash Vs The Evil Dead - tv series based on the films, started really well then died off a bit. It's still pretty good and I love the over the top blood splatters, and how violent it is for a TV show. I was just getting a bit bored with it, then the latest episode had an amazing blood-splatter-fest in an American diner joint. TV series are where it has been for me for several years now, US films are usually just dull blockbusters, super hero films , remakes (yawn) etc, etc. Should maybe create a new thread - What TV series are you currently watching.

7/10

The Swimmer. Burt Lancaster hits on the idea of swimming back home via suburban swimming pools.

He looks in good shape for a 55 year old.
