Love Actually.

Suffers from the problems of all anthology films, in that some stories are inherently more interesting/sympathetic than others, and the bringing together of the different threads is rather contrived. However, Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman are bloody brilliant, and I'd have watched a whole film of the Liam Neeson/Sam story quite happily. Colin Firth's Hugh Grant-ish turn isn't bad either. I spent 30 minutes wondering whether to switch it off, and then it had got me, damn my eyes.

The Deep, an Icelandic film; it was on TV last night. Based on a harrowing but interesting true story. Don't watch it if you have a fear of water and drowning though .

I saw it listed as I was scanning the guide. I passed over it thinking it was the original The Deep movie.
I'll check tonight to see if it's on again.

Was it on DVD? Some to the deleted scenes are hilarious, especially Emma Thompson's son's Christmas wish.

My Dad was driven out of hospital by the incessant inane drivel coming from a neighbour's (paid for) tv. The hospital no doubt imagined they were coining it from the telly suppliers...shame my Dad's early departure soon led directly to the need for a readmission, with additional surgery, which probably cost more money than the hospital 'made' all year. Never mind the effect on patients' 'quality of care'. Just one more piece of great joined-up thinking from our new market-led customer-responsive financially-innovative public services....
We had headphones, when I was in. Hubster watches TV while he's dialysing. He too has headphones. All dialysis units, he has been too, have had a 'use headphones' rule. They will even supply a set if you don't have your own.

Such a shame that someone elses TV choices and volume caused your Dad to leave hospital early, when headphones or a bit of volume control would have made such a difference. When Hubster started dialysing, there was a communal TV in each bay. Poor Hubster got stuck with a deaf football fan, more often than not. Sadly, he couldn't leave. He could hear the TV over his music through headphones.

(Not just last night, but over the weekend) River. It's every bit as good as people say. Maybe more.

ah yes, got that cued up (couldn't watch it whilst Unforgotten was on) and looking forward to it... I'm currently watching The Bridge III, Jessica Jones and completely confusing myself with Penny Dreadful and The Frankenstein Chronicles (both good but not great, and very similar).

Badlands - just terrific. Charlie Sheen is great, and Sissy Spacek even better. The whole thing is just a masterclass in tight, economical, yet immensely rich filmmaking.
