The Man From Uncle - Typical over-stylized Guy Ritchie film. Pity as it had promise.

An American colleague, who's lived here a long time and married a Brit said she still had to remember that if she was mocked or been rude to by friends it was because they liked her and she was "in the gang"
I have to say to people over here "Nah, if I don't like someone I ignore them. I take the piss out of you 'cos I like you."

KIds watched Maleficent. Disney stuff used to be far simpler in my day - good was good and evil was evil but not any more!
I saw Maleficent the other night. I was going to say it is a Disney for older kids. I enjoyed it. Angelina Jolie just visually purrs.

Tonight was my choice so we saw Philomena. Very good Steve Coogan. Everything he does appears (at least semi-) autobiographical. I wonder if he is of Irish descent. He comes from the same part of the world as I do, and is a similar age, so may well have met women with terrible stories from the past. Still, the film is all very warm and uplifting.

I thought that started next week. Could have sworn it was the 28th. That must be Colditz then. Been looking forward to Jessica Jones. I quite like the Marvel stuff.

I don't know the original strip, so I can't vouch for its authenticity.

Good cast.

If Daredevil is subversive-Avengers, JJ is sub-Daredevil.

I remember enjoying Paper Moon when I saw it years ago, but I'd forgotten just how good it is. Tatum O' Neal plays an absolute blinder. "I WANT MY $200!" But the whole thing is a joy, from the wonderful b/w photography to the cast of bit-part players, many of them apparently locals and non-actors, recruited to make the whole thing feel real - and with great success. The scope for sentimentality and mawkishness is obvious, but not a trace. Funny, moving, beautiful. A joy.
