I'm assured by a scientist friend that this is pretty much bang on, unlike Gravity. A great blend of humour and sadness, with a superb performance by Matt Damon (who must be the most expensively rescued guy in Hollywood).

Spent far too much time building up to what was a bit of an anti-climax. Characters were very annoying. They could have saved at least 45 minutes in the middle and made for a much more exciting and satisfying ending. This is a far cry from "I Robot", and reminded me of one of those boring French films where the tiny cast sit around chatting.

What it did have going for it: Pretty good CGI with quite a dark yet realistic view on the ethical implications of AI. Shame there wasn't a better ending.

A bleak story about a family that's briefly caught up in the violence of Mexico's drug gangs. I thought it was about the lasting (bad) effects of violence at first, although the final ten minutes or so seems to suggest that violence is redemptive too. Some striking cinematography as well.

Throwing Cheeseballs at a Dog

Greg Davies' stand up DVD from (I think) 2011. Really good, and one of those that is still making me chuckle as I remember bits of it in the days following my viewing.

Jude Law, who i tend to be ambivalent about, plays a submariner out to get his after being sh1te on by his employers. Some of the CG were a little below par but a very gritty storyline.
Excellent.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Never seen this before, and obviously, a lot of horror has flowed under the bridge since.

A slow first third, a predictable middle (given how much this film echoes into future work, that's unsurprising) but an incredibly gruelling, disturbing final act, even to a jaded 21st century palate.

I've been watching them all again and educating my daughter after hearing about the new film. She is a great film buddy as she loves everything from lord of the rings, marvel and other superhero films to animated fun like shrek, cars and monsters inc.

There are others which she can watch yet given she is only 8 but we'll get there.....

Not a film, but last night I watched that final two episodes of The Witches and the Grinnygog; an early 80s kids supernatural drama. It lacked promise to begin with, showed a spark of ingenuity in the middle and ended flat on its face. It was only in the final episode that I realised one of the kids went on to become Ian Beale!

TCM is an all time classic.Short on gore but high on atmosphere this truly is one of the greats of horror.

Last night i watched an unknown little gem, `Body`,about three girls who enter a building to have a girly night in but find someone else there and an accident occurs.I wont say any more as it would spoil the movie but this was a little beauty.A story of `what would you do`. 8/10
