I saw a clip of that, and the acting was abominable. Utterly stilted and wooden, and the dialogue was awful.
Low budget needn't mean shite.

IMDB reckons the budget for that was £3m... Given the director's previous efforts I'm surprised he managed to raise that much!

I saw Terminator Genisys last night.
It was significantly better than I expected: way better than T3. Not a great film, but quite fun.

The Theory of Everything. The kind of film the Brits do well, done very well. Eddie Redmayne is extraordinary in the kind of role actors must fight over - you know, the ones that just have 'Oscar' written all over them before casting begins.

Last night i watched an american TV movie called Citizen X... based on a true story about a serial killer in soviet russia and the detective charged with catching him. Full of propaganda about how backward and bureaucratic the Soviets were... god bless america! A half decent crime drama with plenty of cheese.

I can't rate it yet because despite 2 viewings over the last week I can't decide if I really like it or absolutely hate it.

On the one hand I think it's brave, creative and clever.

On the other, I think it's pretentious twaddle.

But then I realise I've got three hands and think that guys like Lynch/Cronenberg/De Refn are brilliant so I can't just dismiss Gosling because he's clearly got a boner for all three.

Not last night; but, last week-end went to see Mr Holmes - excellent film 10 out of 10.

When I watch a film clip I always think that that bit's being used because it shows the film off at it's best.

God Save the Girl - a musical about a young lass with anorexia fining her way in life through writing songs. It's written and directed by Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian, with songs from his God Save the Girl side project. It's a very pleasant, simple little film, with some really good songs.

Conan The Barbarian - 8/10 for the film, 10/10 for the score

Properly ridiculous, endearingly camp, gratuitously violent. Perfect for a dreich Sunday afternoon.

Spanglish with Adam Sandler who I despise. It turned out to be a film not full of his usual base level humour but a cutting look at migrant labour and the way we treat each other within the family bond.
