Paddington. Everything about it is wonderful except the plot.

Why did the need to include a Cruella Deville-esque villan into the story? It just ruined what should have been a treat of a movie for me
Has there even been a good transition from small screen to big? I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

I greatly enjoyed the recent Gary Oldman version, despite quite low expectations. The original TV version was one of the greatest TV dramas of all time, with Alec Guiness giving perhaps his best ever performance - which is saying something. Given The movie had such a bit hill to climb. I expected to be disapointed , but i was enthralled

Moonrise Kingdom - I'd never heard of it but it turned out to be a delight. Always assuming you like Wes Anderson. Probably the most Wes Anderson Wes Anderson film I've ever seen.A movie for which the word 'quirky' was invented.
After watching The Life Aquatic... i figured i'd like every Wes Anderson film, but time and again they left me feeling a bit 'meh', so i figured he was a one hit wonder. Watched Moonrise Kingdom a few months ago and realised he's at least a two hit wonder. Great film!!

Not a film but i did watch all 13 episodes of series two of the Australian kid's supernatural drama Nowhere Boys in two sittings over the weekend... very enjoyable bit of inane stuff for those of us* who still enjoy the original Tomorrow People, Chocky, The Changes, and the like.

* probably only me.

I bought a copy of 'A boy, a girl and a bike' off eBay the other day. Supposedly it's a classic British post war cycling themed film. Released in 1949 Starring Diana Dors, Anthony Newley, Honor Blackman, Thora Hird, Megs Jenkins and a host of other familiar actors. Mildly amusing film, but more interesting in seeing how much the country has changed in the 60 odd years since the film was made. Lack of cars, road markings, road signs, electric pylons and general 'clutter' were all very self evident. Sad to think what we have lost due to 'progress'.
What was very interesting, and somewhat surprising, was a scene during the bike race, at about one hour twenty minutes into the film, when I suddenly thought 'that rider looks familiar!'. Quick rewind, find scene and pause. Said to missus 'Who's that in the dark jersey?'.
'Bloody hell!' she replied 'It's Jimmy Savile!'.
It was - albeit a very young one. Apparently he belonged to a local cycling club which had been asked to supply extras for the cycling scenes.
Well, I never!

so far today Ronin - not sure I really liked it tbh... seen better films yesterday - all of them yesterday were better than this. maybe 5 or 6/10.
"A freelancing former US intelligence agent tries to track down a mysterious package that is wanted by both the Irish and the Russians."
I guess not everyone likes everything but a bit surprised with Ronin, it often sits in my top 5 of all time and I will randomly take it down off the shelf and give it a re-watch.

surprised me as well because I was expecting to like it much more than I did. can't quite place what it was I didn't like or why but I didn't for some reason. it was just 'average' for me.

I rather like Ronin and have watched it a times. Apart from some rather clumsy product placement I loved it. Great cast, Particularly an ultra cool Jean Reno, and Stellen Skarsgaad (sp?) really superb - and that car chase.!

Is it possible that it was one too many films in the day? Sometimes I'm good to never stop watching, sometimes I reach tilt and I rarely know I have until it's happened.

Or you might just not like it. That is allowed after all. If we all liked the same stuff we wouldn't need supermarkets.

Liberal arts. Not sure what to make of this. A gentle romance between a University student (19) and an older ex student (35). I add the ages because of the times we live in!
They are brought together through their shared love of literature and poetry.
It held my attention 6/10.
