Paddington. Everything about it is wonderful except the plot.

Why did the need to include a Cruella Deville-esque villan into the story? It just ruined what should have been a treat of a movie for me

Ex Machina

Actually a really good exploration of the relationship between humans and Artificial Intelligence, Recommended

Shutter Island

5/10

When I first saw this in the cinema, I thought it was clever and a bit brilliant. On second viewing it's really not that good. There are some particularly shonky green-screen sections which are laughable. I think it suffers from the same problem as Sixth Sense - once you understand the twist, it's a fairly mundane affair.

The Double, the 2011 film with Richard Gere. Reasonable thriller effort. Richard Gere is pretty good when you get him away from schmaltzy nonsense, seen a couple of his films recently and thought he was OK.

U-571. Ignoring the 'Americans re write history' element it wasn't a bad wartime adventure yarn. A good performance from Harvey Keitel, who was playing a rare role in which he wasn't a crooked cop or gangster.

Ok low budget British horror that suffers slightly from showing too much of the monster, I think. Some nice moments, particularly Noel Clarke's weapons find in one of the units.

Probably the best film I'll ever see that features both Eric Cantona and Cate Blanchett.

You've done well if you can ignore that. Is there not a bit with Bon Jovi running about leaping from sub to sub holding an enigma machine? Farcical.

So far today I have watched...

Siberian Education which was actually quite good. 8/10. It's not a thriller, so don't go expecting lots of high voltage action, but in a strange way it's quite moving. I'm not bothered if it is true or not, I just enjoyed it.

Flyboys which want too bad either 7/10. Based on the Lafayette Escadrille, American volunteers during WWI who volunteered for the French military to become fighter pilots before the USA joined the was.

Moonrise Kingdom - I'd never heard of it but it turned out to be a delight. Always assuming you like Wes Anderson. Probably the most Wes Anderson Wes Anderson film I've ever seen.A movie for which the word 'quirky' was invented.
