Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Not a film, but a mini series called Olive Kitteridge on sky atlantic. It followed the life of olive over a 25 year period. Olive was a very acerbic retired maths teacher. Although for the first 10 minutes I thought I'd made a mistake, I quickly came to like Olive very much, and in fact thought she was very funny because of the things she would say.

Olive Kitteridge was a study of relationships between husband and wife, friends, and with children. It wasn't the type of thing I would normally watch, and even though Olive was quite an unpleasant person, I enjoyed this very much. 8/10.

Not a film, and not even on the telly, but I've been listening to the Radio 4 dramatisation of Good Omens. I'm half way through.
It's a book I absolutely adore, and so far the adaptation has been excellent.

Watched Zero Dark Thirty last night. Didn't know what to expect really, but i have to say we both enjoyed it. Excellent film.
I thought it was good too - on DVD transfer it is *really* dark though. I had to have the lights out in the room I was watching in to be able to make out the detail in some of the scenes.
I'll have to have a look at iPlayer - I missed that! Terry Gilliam has been wanting to make a film out of Good Omens for years - I really hope he manages.
Should be available for another 3 weeks or so.

Redirected - starring Vinnie Jones ,very ambitious Gangster comedy set in Lithuania , worth a watch if you don't want to engage your brain for a couple of hours .

Gone Girl - starring Ben Affleck , really enjoyed this and can see Oscars coming its way .

A Royal Affair - very good Danish film, sort of in the Madness of King George vein...a sumptuous portrayal of Danish court life at the tail end of the 18th century - a time when (as I discovered) Denmark still had serfs (aka slaves) and people still got their heads chopped off for talking about democracy.

Watched Guardians of the Galaxy on Friday. I bought it on blu-ray following a string of really good reviews, and have to say it is the most overrated film of last year, apart from the soundtrack.
Didn't find it funny, or engaging, just whizz-bang and cartoonish visuals.
I am a big sci-fi and marvel fan, but this just didn't do it for me...
