Gravity...George Clooney and Sandra Bullock.
Cinematically brilliant, awesome vistas, I found myself thinking...eek ..as they space walked above the Earth, very very realistic.
Very intense in the debris shower scenes, the breakup of the ISS as a result was so realistic, like in slow motion, although the final quarter, the flight home was a bit light on detail (IMO).
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Adaptation. A Nicolas cage double roll but I found it boring so never finished it off. I suppose if I was in a different mood I might have enjoyed it more.

I found it intensely irritating. I finished the film, but was muttering under my breath an awful lot.

Anyway, "Bad Santa". I wanted to dislike this, as the film wants to have its cake and eat it, being a cynical take on the holiday season that also has the central character grow and discover the true meaning of christmas. Sort of. It's skillfully done, and for the most part, very funny, pulling off the difficult balancing act it sets itself with aplomb.

My unconventional Christmas movie of choice remains "Rare Exports", but if you've steered clear of Bad Santa for the reasons I had, give it a whirl, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The Frozen Ground.

4/10.

A promising first half hour which quickly descends into a generic police procedural affair, as the 'whodunnit' element of surprise is revealed/obvious far too early. Nicholas Cage holds it together manfully in the lead, but is let down by a poor supporting cast and a wooden script. John Cusack is an interesting choice as the villain of the piece but he doesn't really pull it off.

Watched this last night, I thought it was pretty good throughout, Cage morphed into Jimmy Stewart on a couple of occasions, Cussack played a pretty convincing nutter. It was a pretty bleak and desperate affair but perfectly watchable, fantastic scenery shots. Nice to see Hank out of Breaking Bad again.

Warrior on Neflix. Too long, predictable, when they used the 4 way screen split to move things along I almost turned off. Nick Nolte was good though. Can't believe it got 8.2 on IMDB.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Some other Spanish favourites of mine:

Y Tu Mama Tambien
El Mariachi
Solo Con tu Pareja
The Devil's Backbone
Cronos
Amores Perros
Matador
Paris, je t'aime (not all in Spanish)
The Secret in Their Eyes

I reckon you should do a world tour of foreign cinema while you're laid up, there's a lot of great stuff out there which is over-looked (or remade in English) because subtitles are viewed as a bad thing. A former lady friend refused to watch anything that wasn't all in English because she couldn't be expected to read and follow the film as well, truly pathetic.

Saw this sometime ago. Good movie.

Take little notice of that site, Inception got 8.8 for example which was pretty fiddle IMVO.

So I guess that would make it better theoretically than Goodfellas 8.7, Bladerunner 8.2, Alien 8.5, and Full Metal Jacket 8.4

The problem could possibly be that most mainstream films over the last decade or so are simply not as good as they used to be. So when the odd half decent film comes along it appears to get an over-optimistic rating.
