Rush - A film about the rivalry between 1970's F1 drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt. I watched this straight after watching a good documentary on BBC4 about the same thing, I've had the film for a while just never got round to watching it. The documentary was obviously more realistic and some things had been left out of the film as the film did not portray Ferrari and Lauda to be quite as bad at using the politics of F1 at the time to rob Hunt of points as the documentary did. I haven't watched F1 since Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna were in the limelight as it has been so so dull for years (just IMVHO). The documentary and the film reminded me of how exciting it used to be. Obviously all the accidents were not a good thing way back then. The film is not as cheesey as most Hollywood films by a long way, but the final race in Japan is a bit naff and cheesey. But I could forgive it for this, definitely worth watching. Daniel Bruhl whom plays Niki Lauda was the star of the film for me. It's so hard to believe that a man could be so machine-like, but I guess he must of been to get back in an F1 car 40 days after such a horrific near death experience. Reading @Eddy post above reminds me that I also need to watch Senna, as I've had this for ages but never got round to watching it. I think having zero interest in F1 these day's put me off watching Senna and Rush straight away after they came out, daft I know as it used to be an exciting sport.

I saw Take Cover, about a man who enlarges his tornado shelter, for psychological reasons. Or not.
Isn't that "Take Shelter"? If it's the same one, it's a belter.

I watched "Absentia", an effective low budget chiller - not one for those of you who like your horror with a lot of claret splashed up the walls, but if you like unsettling things seen in the corner of the eye, and doubts over whether what's happening is even happening, you'll like this.

@Cletus Van Damme - do try and catch Senna. I'm not, and never have been interested in F1, but loved Senna - it's a terrific, sad, beautifully made film.

A frustrating film as it has moments of genuine brilliance, but is hampered by a desire to be a brash 90s action flick. Could and should have been a lot better.

Lunacy

An uncompromising Czech piece of satire that I'll have to watch again to fully appreciate. Poses interesting questions about the existence and credibility of God.

U-571 starring Mathew Mcconaghey (yeah probably spelt wrong) harvey keitel, john bon jovi and others. About a crew of American submariners who captured the enigma machine, which of course they didn't, but hey, never let the truth get in the way of a good story as they say.

Despite that, it isn't a bad film, and worth watching purely for entertainment value, if not for the truth.

I think that was HMS Bulldog, Broadway, and Aubrieta. That was in 1941. The Americans captured U505 off Africa in 1944. It is currently in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. I've been to it a few times.

this is it being delivered to the museum in 1954. Bicycle!
It used to be outside, but now it appears to be in a submarine pen reconstruction

French Film. Quite enjoyable, but didn't entirely work for me, thanks to a central 'romance' that lacked any kind of spark. Eric Cantona played a French twat very well.
