Didn't watch them but noticed 2 Christmas films on yesterday, and another 2 on today. November isn't even in bloody double figures yet!!!

Last night was robot movie night...

Heartbeeps: an early 80s robot-rom-com that i can only describe as utter pants.
Chopping Mall: an 80s slack slash thing in which a group of teenagers party in a shopping mall overnight, but the mall's robot security guards turn up and spoil the fun... enjoyable yet daft and very dated... complete pants but a million times better than Heartbeeps.
Robot & Frank: An old guy is given a robot servant to help around the house. Frank is reluctant at first, but soon warms to his new robot companion, especially when he uses it to rekindle his former career as a burglar. It's slow yet charming and well worth a look.

Just watched a film from New Zealand called, 'in my father's den'

Immensely enjoyable thriller.

Why can't Hollywood make original films like it?

It can, and does. Though I'd say that Hollywood is an easy target given the bobbins and remakes that have become de rigeur, you just need to look a little harder for the good stuff.

Not sure it counts as found footage (although there's some in it) but have you seen Lake Mungo? One of the better creeping dread films I've seen recently.

I have not, but will look out for it. It sounds pretty good. Wolf Creek was the last properly Aussie film I watched so I've got high hopes!

Seems like you cannot find a Hollywood Movie that is not a remake or a reboot of previous work, or something to do with a comic book graphic novel. I believe this is because movies are extremely expensive to make, and the bankers and producers want a sure bet. That being said, there are plenty of independent productions going on out there that are truly original, but often without star power.
