Had the luxury of watching two last night.

Losers is a low-budget Swedish film about a group of unemployed youngsters out on a team-building weekend into the forests of central Sweden and how everything goes wrong. 6/10

And then Jack Irish with Guy Pearce, an ex lawyer turned private investigator. 7/10

Prometheus.

Not as bad as I was expecting, to be honest, although I'm unsure how much of that opinion is swayed by Michael Fassbender's excellent turn as "David".

As a stand alone sci fi film, I think it would get an easier ride than it does as part of the Alien mythos.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

I think there is going to be a 2nd one.

Resident Evil: Retribution

Not quite completely, but dreadful nonsense. Some striking imagery at times, but (what I assume) is a reasonably faithful transfer of the video game aesthetic to plot and character just doesn't work for me at all.

A lot of glancing at my watch during this one.

If they could make it 80-90% "David wanders about the ship watching old films, and mimicking them", I'm in.

Last night I went to see Gone Girl, purely because David Fincher directed it. It's relatively sedate for about an hour and then suddenly kicks off into a confusing tale of betrayal and double crossing. Mrs RM has read the book it's based on and even she had trouble keeping track of what was going on. I think I need to re-watch it to fully appreciate what's going on because I ended up utterly lost; currently I feel that it should have been longer or split in two, but I can't really see how you'd do that.

I enjoyed it, but I feel frustrated at the same time, which is an odd sensation so I'll not rate it until I've watched it again and actually understand the piece.

Cabin in the Woods is f*cking brilliant. I've still to place all the monsters when it all goes horribly wrong.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Not too bad considering the subject matter, with some great CGI action sequences. Odd that the only unbelievable thing in the whole movie was Megan Fox's head

One of my favourite John Wayne westerns - enjoyable as always.

The Cave of Forgotten Dreams
Superb. Somehow, Werner Herzog manages to convey his wonder (and the wonder of the scientists studying it) at the prehistoric site of La Grotte Chauvet to the viewer.
