Here for rides.
I'd suggest not watching The Time Machine. He can certainly act but it's not a great film.
As cartoons go it was ok.

Uwe Boll directed it, which says more than enough. I don't know how he gets the rights to make good games into dreadful films but it keeps happening. His adaptation of House of the Dead is the only thing I've ever actually walked out of, and I've watched some right guff at the cinema.
Ah, Uwe Boll.

As for me, I finished watching "Compliance". Interesting premise, although I think it might work better watched in one sitting, rather than broken up as I watched it (I think I missed on the feeling of escalation somewhat). Anyway, I thought it got a bit too far fetched in the middle, and that it was rescued by the final section.

Not last night but a couple of nights ago, a special screening of an independent film, Still the Enemy Within. The story of the 1984 miners' strike told by the miners and their wives. It was very interesting, enraging, and enlightening. The director and producer were there for a Q&A after the film. Catch it if you can. http://the-enemy-within.org.uk/

Heard a radio interview with some of the actors and it sounded really good. Pity it probably won't be coming this way.

There are no actors involved, only real people who were there. The producers are looking for screenings, particularly to student groups, so a college or university could organise one. Details are on the website. Given that the strike was such a milestone in trade union history it has been shamefully overlooked or dismissed as a failure, when it was actually a brave stand brought down by, among other factors, corruption.
Not to mention incompetence in some pretty high places. Assuming you believe any such bollocks, needless to say.

the 1960s version is great !
(as is the book)

Came across a 50p DVD of Pan's Labyrinth (as suggested recently in this thread) which is in Spanish with subtitles.

Curious mix of a children's fantasy with very mild horror and the realities of the Spanish Civil War with legs being sawn off, prisoners tortured with a hammer and innocents being shot in the head.

Well worth the 50p.

Watching Northern Soul, good British Indie Film, great acting and soundtrack.
I'm currently downloading that.

Tried to watch it at the pictures last Sunday night but it was sold out, so booked tickets for Monday night's showing. But some crumbling plaster had fallen from the cinema ceiling on Sunday afternoon so both shows were cancelled. This did result in an interesting impromptu northern soul night at the pub down the road from the cinema on Sunday evening... a pub in which Sunday night is traditional folk night. A very interesting sound clash indeed, with neither side willing to back down

I'm going to see Still The Enemy Within on Sunday evening. Looking forward to it as it's not a subject I'm particularly familiar with, beyond fictional efforts and some half arsed reading.

I expect it will be considerably educational than what I watched last night...

Bad Boys

7/10

Loud. Ridiculous. Funny. Switch your brain off for a couple of hours and watch Will Smith and Martin Lawrence destroy Miami with very little consequence. Pretty much a blueprint for all Michael Bay films.

I really like Del Toro's films, and Pan's Labyrinth is amazing. If you liked it you should look out for some of his other work. I think he did at least one Watchmen film, but I might have remembered that wrong.

I think he was offered it but turned it down because he reckoned he couldn't fit it into one film. Zack Snyder proved him wrong.
