Blended.... Michael Barrymore's estranged daughter, "Drew" and her on screen husband, Adam "I cant make a film without Drew Barrymore in it" Sandler.

The Wedding Singer it was not. What a pile of gash.

The Woman in Black.

Not bad, although I think Daniel Radcliffe a bit too young to play the central character. Mrs M and I are split on the ending, which she declared to be "Daft", and I thought not too bad. Ciaran Hinds was terrific.

Hanna. Strange, engaging but a bit lack luster with a a slightly disappointing end.
Yup... a good film... I like the way it turns into a dark fairy tale type thing towards the end. Its only let down is all of Eric Banna's fight scenes.

Tonight i watched Otway: The Movie. A hilarious, hopeless and hapless retrospective of John Otway as rock & roll's biggest failure. I won't give it point score but i will recommend it to everyone, regardless of whether they think he's a terrible performer or have never even heard of him.

I enjoyed that, but prefered the old TV drama version. Some stories just work better with a lower budget and a longer run time.

I hammered through a few last night.

Perrier's Bounty

3/10

Given the cast, it really should have been excellent man. Unfortunately, the script relied on lazy stereotypes and left gaping chasms in the plot man. It was like the director saw In Bruges and thought he'd have a crack at it man. There were some funny bits, and Brendan Gleeson's performance was typically excellent, but even he looked fed up by the end man. If you've seen it, the man thing will make sense dude, and if you've not, don't bother. Watch In fooking Bruges or The Guard instead man.

Metro Manila

7/10

A film of two halves. Initially a thoughtful insight into poverty and exploitation, followed by a low key action piece with a poignant message about sacrifice and love. It's well paced, beautifully shot and weirdly depressing yet uplifting at the same time. The central character, Oscar, is brilliant.

The Warlords

6/10

I have no idea whether this is historically accurate, but I suspect not. It felt a bit like a Chinese version of Braveheart all the way through. Apparently they paid Jet Li boatloads to be in it, and other parts of the film have obviously suffered as a result. Still, at least it's a proper piece of big budget Asian cinema that didn't involve Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves.

Leaway2

Lycrist
Maiden voyage. A documentary about a 14 year old girl Laura Decker, who sails round the world single handed. The film covers the court case in Holland where the authorities try to stop her, but finding is that she should be allowed to go, a brief story of her upbringing. The voyage which is not non stop, she stops off at various points.
As a leisure sailor, I have to admire her skill, courage etc.

The Masque of the Red Death. Director/producer Roger Corman's campy horror with Vincent Price. Price and Corman both at the top of their respective games 7/10

My favourite of his.is "Theatre of blood" - where he plays a ham Shakespearean actor bumping off various critics in grotesque ways based on Shakespearean plots. He's more or less sending himself up - wich of course he does brilliantly. Superbly done by all concerned, not least the rest of a fine cast

That's a very funny but extraordinarily gruesome film, Robert Morley's death being particularly horrid (cf Titus Andronicus).

I particularly liked the choice of the more obscure plays like Titus - which isn't done very often. Saw a brilliantly gruesome Titus in Stratford a year or two back. Makes Saw III look like Mary Poppins

Yep, they did Titus at The Globe and two* people fainted.

I watched The Matrix trilogy last night, for the first time in ages and I've completely changed my mind about it.

I used to deny the existence of the second two films as being utter guff, but they're actually pretty good as sci-fi films. Yes, there are some flaws, and they are basically one film split in two which irritates me no end, but they are super stylish and quite clever.

The first is still the best, but the sequels stand up well. I remember the hysteria about bullet time and don't really get it now, it's basically slow motion.

Overall, 8/10. 9 for the first, 7 each for the sequels.
