I used to have a 1200 Beetle...sky blue... WDW 824K. Often wonder if it's still running somewhere.

9 year old Renault Clio with 105000 miles on it. Engine still going strong although I have had to replace various parts of the suspension. Also got a nice dent in the side where my son misjudged the exit of the tennis club.

When choosing the current car we considered practicality (estate, mpv, hatchback) economy, running costs, economy (diesels). Looked at the likes of Picassos, zafiras, focus, etc.

Then test drove an Alfa 156 and bought that.
Theres actually a chance it will break 500 miles so far this year before the end of this month it breaks down.

FTFY

I've little interest, I do Iike utility cars, cars that lend themselves to several uses and that you can scratch and dent and not be bothered. I have a Jeep Cherokee and love it, the 15-20 mpg also puts me off driving it, which can be good and bad. I like a big bonnet and like to see it's extremities so that I can "steer" it, like a boat, modern cars don't have them.

Considering the mpg, I'd like a Kangoo or Multipla type thing if they were not so ugly or maybe something like Crackles Subaru Forester, I like that.

Wife has an MX5 which is very cehap to run and good fun.

Focus.

Bog standard, cheap to run, nothing ever goes wrong, and when anything wears out it costs pence to replace.
Me too...
2007 Focus Style, 1.6, zippy if you floor it, but underpowered...you HAVE to have a heavy foot to make it maintain headway, then it gobbles the fuel. To get any decent economy, you've got to drive like a saint..and then some.
I like it in most respects, but having to be light footed all the time kills any enjoyment.

You're thinking is a bit like mine. I wanted a jeep as I've always liked them but I couldn't get a good example at the time for the money I had. Forester mpg is still not great, anywhere between 25 and 30.

MkV Golf GTI DSG, goes plenty fast enough, can get a bike comfortably in the boot with seats down, but eats super UL fuel if driven enthusiastically

Known as Gretel :girl:

I had one of those until quite recently - had DSG, 18" Alloys and all the toys, I absolutely loved it. Wife made me get rid as she needed to use it for work and hated it, she doesn't really care about cars as long as it's got air con and can get Radio 2:rolleyes: I must admit, running costs were high and if you have a heavy right foot petrol consumption was poor. So, we changed it for a Golf Bluemotion - dull as ditchwater but does the job and we can get 70mpg, road tax £30 etc. I do like Golfs.

Our family car is a 2003 Subaru Forester. It's done over 100k but still going strong. In fairness it's been bombproof. Can get kids, dog, bikes, kayaks etc in and on it and wouldn't be able to do my job in winter round here without the 4wd.

Like the 320d engine, lots of lovely torque.

I'm in a 2007 318i SE. Black and scruffy as hell as I've been too busy to wash it for a month.
I'm getting 34mpg locally, and 40-45mpg on motorway runs. But I am light footed as hell - bought this to use as a distance cruiser.
