Ironically mine is cheaper to run than the Astra Coupe Turbo I had before it. Although I got an incredible deal, but still had to put a new clutch in.
I've had the sporty car, this is the cruiser - I don't have a clue what to get next. I think sensible and frugal is the name of the game.

Had dozens of cars - currently a boring new shape Citroen Picasso. Boring but very cheap, reliable, economical, comfy and roomy. Previous was an Alfa Romeo Mito - not that cheap, comfortable or reliable but surprisingly economical and very fast.

VW camper and MKII golf gti with rear seats removed to carry bikes around.
Much like bikes, you can fix 80's cars yourself

Best car I ever owned was a 1991 Golf GTi mk2, with the 8 valve engine. It was 3 years old with about 32k miles on the clock when I bought it. Sold it 6 years later by which time it had 152k miles on the clock, but still drove as well as it did the first day I had it. DIY servicing was a piece of cake, even replacing the timing belt was straightforward.

Nostalgic photo moment:

Oooh that hurts. :gun:
its actually been utterly reliable. Alfas reputation goes back a long way and its something I can't see them ever shaking off in the publics mind. They are a very rare car locally, maybe a couple per month in local rag small ads, which is a good thing in my mind, I like having something a bit different.

Same here except GL, three years older & half the mileage. Bulletproof, fun to drive, utterly reliable, put the rear seats down and you can get a medium-sized bungalow in the back.

An R registration Vauxhall Combo D van with 140,000 on the clock. It cost £2000 eight years ago and every year the company accountant revises its value as a company asset. It is currently worth £32, and looks that way too.
