Took up your recommendation and read Frankenstein last week. I enjoyed it and would give 7/10. Great escapist fantasy / horror story, but the writing style is what I would imagine typical of the era in which it was written (mid 1800s, I think), it is a very profound, wordy style, often with a heavy religious slant. Still very enjoyable and glad I read it.If you're thinking of reading more freely available gothic, Frankenstein is a wonderful read (and re-read). (Assuming you've not already read it).
I really like it, and think it's a book that gives more on each read. Glad you enjoyed it.Took up your recommendation and read Frankenstein last week. I enjoyed it and would give 7/10. Excellent! I read "I Claudius" a bit ago, and have been looking for something in a similar vein.My wife saw Imperium by Robert Harris, for 50p in the charity book sale where she works, so she picked it up for me. It is the first of a historical fiction trilogy based on the life and times of Cicero the Roman lawyer and orator. I know the basics of Roman history and it seems like a good story based around quite an accurate framework of real events. About 1/3 of the way through and so far very good.
