Damn this work business stopping us having fun.

I'm going out early tomorrow, even if it's pouring with rain, snowing, howling wind or the end of the world.

i had some idiot woman actually get out of her car at the lights to shout at me last week when out on a ride.

apparently i should have been cycling closer to the edge of the road as cyclists who dont cause traffic jams allegedly.

when i explained that the reason i wasn't cycling right at the edge of the road due to the poor road surface which is littered with potholes and other debris which would destroy my wheels / tyres i was informed that if i didn't want to ride at the edge of the road then i should be cycling along the cycle paths.

now these cycle paths are the ones that are on the pavement with the path divided in half for pedestrians / cyclists. I can only assume that these cycle paths are for the slower rambling cyclist and then had to explain to her that it was hardly safe for me to be zipping along this type path at 20 - 25 mph with pedestrians a few inches away.

the idiot woman then told me i could either cycle on the cycle paths or the edge of the road and not anywhere else. apparently i have no rights as a fellow road user. she did however provider the anger for me to set a new PB for my route that evening.

where possible i'll always move as close to the edge of the road as possible to allow traffic to pass by out of courtesy. i will not however destroy my wheels and tyres to save motorists a nominal amount of time on their journey. especially when as a road user i am permanently delayed by slow drivers!

motorists don't seem to understand that being stuck behind a cyclist is not the same as being stuck behind a slow driver. you will always be able to easily get past the cyclist on slightly wider/ straighter stretches of road and can easily make up for any lost time by putting your foot down. where as being stuck behind a slow driver you can be delayed for the duration of your journey.

incidentally, i find it is the slower drivers who are the most dangerous. they think they're safe just because they're driving slow, but will then proceed to overtake a cyclist at any point along the road, whether there's a blind corner or whatever and then pass within a few inches of the cyclist. driving slow i find is usually a signal that the driver is actually incompetent at handling a car. faster drivers i find will always slow down behind you, wait for the opportune moment and then speed past you.

i agree with one of the other posts about the muppets who overtake you only to then slam on their brakes to make a left turn a few metres ahead.

a final annoyance is the idiots who can't dip their headlights as they come towards you. when you're on a bike, it's blinding have full beams shined at you by a car and i've nearly cycled either onto the other side of the road or into a hedge at the side of the road many times as a result of this.

so many drivers that shouldn't be allowed to drive....

As a walker & a cyclist, without doubt I find the friendlier group are the walkers. Most, if not all, will speak on passing and to a large extent this extends to mountain bikers as well - but the lycra brigade bikers, the heads down, bums up, mandatory shades, two abreast on just about any track they can find, type, well you'll be lucky to get a Rooney type grunt out of these ones.

It would be interesting to compare the time spent going uphill and to the time spent going downhill. I guess 90% of my cycling is spent going up.

It's all explainable using simple Einstein-type relativity. It's gravity-induced time dilation - as you cross the lines of the gravity field one way, time slows down, and the other way time speeds up.

Well, it's the only way which makes sense to me - I can't think of any other explanation.

The cycle lane opposite my house.... For a couple of miles it runs along the pavment, the cycle part is surfaced with a rougher, bumpier 'tarmac' painted green & has big white bikes painted on it...Bit of clue you'd think..?
The pedestrian part is nice & smooth, twice as wide as the cycle part... So why do people in electric wheelchairs, mothers with prams & ambling dogwalkers want to use it..??

When motorists fly by a couple of inches away from me, then no sooner have they overtaken, give me the space that they should have done as they passed. Needless to say, they're about 2 foot from the white line.
And it seems to be the little cars that are the worst culprits - lorries and buses, estate cars etc give loadsa space.

Brain-dead lads in crappy Corsas with blacked out windows shouting abuse as they pass, wow, it must be so entertaining to see the startled look on a cyclists face.

Ah, rant over....

Minor mechanicals.

The ones that don't affect the overall ride, but they let you know that you and your bike are not 100% - e.g. a 5% drop in PSI on the front tyre. Not a huge issue, but it's there in the back of my mind and I will constantly think about it until I get home and can top it up.

I thought I was the only one who has this issue bugging him.
I am constantly feeling my tyres for pressure.
