I think it has to be punctures for me. I have never been that good at fixing them, especially by the roadside so I always carry a couple of spare tubes with me to swap in and then patch up the old ones at home if they are not too bad.
However this saturday, my first big ride in about 2 years, I head off from Sawston hoping to go to Saffron walden. I must have missed a turning somewhere as I realise that I am just climbing up in to Bishops Stortford (21 miles instead of the 9 that I had planned). Just as I crown the climb I get a puncture, no problem I think and slip a fresh tube in and go on my merry way. I have a bit of a look around in Bishops Stortford and then decide I may as well start heading home. About 4 miles out I get another puncture, drat, on goes my final tube and I go on my way again. Less than half a mile and my back wheel gets one this time.
No worries I think to myself as I remembered seeing a cycle shop in Newport on the way through, decided to walk there and get some new tubes and maybe a bite to eat if I could find something tasty. After walking what felt like forever I get in to Newport to find the shop closed and the village practically deserted, fantastic, at this point I had to make a mercy call and beg for a lift home. Not the way I imagined my first trip on my new toy to work out
On the brightside went out yesterday on a nice 30 miler with some friends and managed to avoid any at all, fingers crossed my luck is changing
