Hi all,

I went off for my usual weekend ride through the New Forest on Saturday, covering 61 miles, and I enjoyed it very much.
The weather was dry, the sun was out

, plenty of other cyclists around, waving or saying "morning" :bicycle:, it was just slightly tainted by the head winds I endured for about 30 miles of the ride

. I know we all have to endure it, and I have endured plenty in the past. I got so annoyed, I checked nobody was around, and started swearing at the wind loudly! Didn't help much really!

It was all good training anyway and I still managed to do it in 3 hours and 39 minutes. I guess that's where the wind annoyed me as I knew I wouldn't get a faster time. Never mind, always next week

So I was just thinking, what would you say is the most annoying thing on your rides? (Punctures, Drivers, Wind, Rain etc........)
I say annoying because as hard as the wind can make a ride, I still enjoy the ride overall, and I ended up getting quite the tan lines on the arms and legs!

At the moment it's my OH being "helpful" suggesting routes which are either too dull for words or on entirely unsuitable roads (dual carriageway, anyone?) He's just emailed me one which does a couple of miles on the M56...

Getting most of the way up a horribly steep hill, then having to stop and climb into the hedge to let a tractor / horsebox through.

And overtaking another cyclist in town, only for them to whizz past by RLJing - especially the ones cycle up onto the pavement and then rejoin the road after the lights.

On shorter rides it annoys me when I set off in the dry then it starts raining so I then have to decide if it's bad enough to bother putting the waterproofs on. There's nothing I can think of which would spoil the enjoyment of the entire ride - nothing that's happened to me lately anyway.

when a car decides to overtake you and then immediately turns left cutting in front of you instead of waiting an extra 5 seconds behind you before turning. on the plus side it does improve your swearing ability and helps stretch your fingers ( well your middle one anyway when it extends out toward the driver

you beat me to it bigdaz, I found myself waiving my fist like a cartoon villan at a lovely old dear yesterday who decided to overtake and imediately turn left almost catapulting me over the bonnet of her car!

Those weird, short necked, ugly, large mucky brown ducks (might be geese, not hot on birds) with lolling tounges that try to bite your calves on canal paths.

I'm with you on that - I planned an 80 mile route for Saturday, and as it turned out, the first 30 miles were heading straight into a strong headwind

. I too swore at the wind, loudly at times.

On another amusing note, earlier last week we rode up the white horse hill, and stopped for a rest at the top. A few minutes later another cyclist came riding up the hill, and told us he got overtaken by a runner on his way up!

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Unrepaired potholes right next to recently repaired ones, and rough bumpy road surfaces (+ potholes) on steep hills.
