Was that bollocks to the CV detox or me cheating on NY Eve?

I've decided that CV is bollocks. Any diet that doesn't let you eat protein is clearly ridiculous, so common sense has prevailed. I shall work my way through the wisdom on this thread, but am currently planning to do the following in January.

1) Cycle.
2) Run
3) Cut out bread (very little nutritional value)
4) Cut out cheese (my weak spot)
5) Cut out alcohol (won't hurt me for a month)
6) Cut out caffeine (ditto)

That feels much healthier.

I had no idea how much i love yoghurt though, until the prospect of a month without it reared its head.

And now...off to drink a lot of wine. Happy New Year everyone

Bollix to detox was what I meant. I think you've made a sensible choice and one that Mrs rich p and I will try to follow too.

Wow...don't think it'll be that dramatic! BUt I hope it might be!! I'm going to be a bridesmaid in the spring and the other two are skinny minnies. i'm currently on track to be 'the fat bridesmaid'.

Ugh..

I'd already cut out bread and cheese since I only have to look at them and the weight piles on me.

I switched to skimmed milk and low-fat natural yoghurt years ago.

I stopped using sugar 30 years ago, but I do have a teaspoon of honey every morning in my porridge.

I used to alternate porridge and home-made muesli for breakfast but I have a couple of dodgy teeth at the moment and the nuts and seeds are a problem. I used: Jumbo oats, cashew nuts, brazil nuts, almonds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, raisins, sultanas, probably a few other things which have slipped my mind.

I don't have a total ban on crisps, chocolate, sweets, or biscuits but I rarely have them in the house. My niece gave me a box of chocs for Christmas and that will get shared with friends. I could easily eat them in one sitting so I won't start the box until I have company.

I don't eat meat but I do eat fish.

I allow myself to eat as much fruit/veg as I want (except for potatoes and yams which are restricted to sensible portions), since (a) it's good for me (2) it's not particularly fattening (unless it's eaten with salad cream or mayo, which I don't use) (3) it displaces other less wholesome things from my diet.

I eat 3-4 large tins of baked beans a week but I might experiment with making something vaguely similar myself (to cut out the sugar and salt). I was thinking: a tin of chick peas, a tin of chopped tomatoes, garlic, chillis, herbs and spices. Split into 3 or 4 servings.

As a matter of interest, I noticed that I'd written the date on my Saxa salt container when I opened it - 10th October 2003. I have about 100 g of the original 750 g of salt left. I'm not adding too much salt directly to my food, but some of it (such as the baked beans, and the tamari soy sauce I use) does have a lot of salt in, so I must keep an eye on how much is in my diet from those other sources.

Well I'm feeling pleased as I haven't put on any weight over the Christmas/New Year festivities, despite not really watching what I'm eating. In fact, I've lost a quarter of a kilo - not much, but it all helps. I kept up my cycling over Christmas which must have been what made the difference - that and the fact that I don't like mince pies/Christmas cake/Christmas pud so don't snack on those quite as much as my husband does!

Congratulations on not putting weight on over the hols. I put a couple of pounds on, but that is just about okay. Previous years it has been as much as 6 or 7 pounds which definitely wasn't  !

I think that you are setting a bit of a trap for yourself trying to weigh yourself to that level of accuracy! That's equivalent to about a glass of water. Depending on when you had your last drink or last toilet visit you could easily be up or down by that amount of weight. If you happened to weigh yourself tomorrow before the toilet visit and after a drink - bingo, you've apparently put on 0.5 kg  ! That's the kind of thing that really upsets people trying to lose weight.

I'd recommend that you weigh yourself every day and once a week average the 7 readings to filter out the daily variations. Only take notice of the weekly trend. Aim for a loss of about 0.5 - 0.9 kg (1 - 2 pounds) per week.

I weigh myself about once a fortnight and always first thing in the morning, after a wee and before I've drunk anything. Of course the weight fluctuates but only weighing myself every fortnight means that the general weight trend is pretty much always downwards. However I was expecting to have gone up a bit, so to be down 250g (even though that isn't very much) is still good after all the Chocolate Pudding Cake and more.

I am noticing that my weight as demonstrated by the scales doesn't really compare with how I feel in terms of fitness and the fit of my clothes. I presume this is because I'm far more muscular now after the cycling than I was when I weighed this amount before but was on the way up in terms of weight (i.e. 2 years ago). Someone said about ignoring BMI and trying to go for fat distribution to give you an idea of diet success and that interests me - not that I have a fat percentage calculator thingie.

Anyway I hope that Willow's diet is still going well!
