Well if you fancy a challenge @sleaver have a go at the route I've basically just plotted thru the hills mentioned on this page. Will be a very nice scenic route, if perhaps a little painful.

For anyone not sure about RidewithGPS, you can hit the export button to download a GPX / TCX to follow on your phone or garmin etc.

If anyone does it, let me know how you got on, I may have a go next week, being a stupid masochist.

Thanks @Nomadski

Looks like something I will have a go at but as I will probably ride there and back and considering I feel like I'm getting my managers 'Man flu' and someone else's 'Brazilian/Peruvian god knows what', it may not be for a couple of weeks.

Some sensible changes made there, and should alleviate worries. The 67km short cut you can take if your struggling and in so doing avoid the broom wagon (and the Tumble) will be a big boost as will the lowered average speed.

I agree, pretty much everyone should be ok with that now.

There isn't actually much climbing before the Tumble though, only around 2,500ft in the 80km until you get there. That's flatter than any ride I could do around here.

I wouldn't worry to much about the tumble, as its pretty early into the ride.....I would be more worried about the total climbing and Caerphilly mountain quite close to the end and after 120km's in the legs..........as an 110kg monster, I find the tumble ok, just pick your lowest, most comfortable gear and spin your way up.......

but I have never done Caerphilly mountain and do believe some of the gradients within it are steeper than the tumble, just not as long

A good response from the organisers there. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Well I've finally booked a hotel.

As training hasn't been going well due to other things I was considering not going but I should be able to get up to 100km before hand.

So I thought what is the worst that can happen  That it will hurt like hell, the Tumble will make me go into 6km of a very very dark place and then I'll crawl round the rest before being broken by that last hill ^_^

Oh, and as it is in Wales, that will all be while getting drenched from the rain  Dont worry, I'm part Welsh.

Or, as it is the Premier Inn and I can cancel up to 1pm on the day, I can still make what ever decision I need

I put the route in Ride withgps the other day and it was under 5,000ft of elevation. I did wonder where the 6,000ft (1800-odd m) they organisers claim came from, as looking at the elevation profile it's nothing like the 6,000ft+ rides I do in the Peak District. The first 50 miles are pretty much flat.
