It's nearly twenty years ago, but I recall it as much like Cambridge, building-wise, but without the tourists.

It had some cathedral quirk - two of them maybe (Catholic+Protestant)?

That’s Liverpool?
Norwich has a lot of churches.
I also went to Cambridge a couple of days after Norwich, preferred Norwich to be honest. Especially as in Cambridge half the stuff you might want to see isn’t accessible to the public except maybe only from a punt (like the Bridge of Sighs which we spent about an hour and a half trying to walk to until we realised you can’t )

That’s Liverpool?

Nope - never been there! :P

'ere ya go:

Multiple cathedrals of different denominations is pretty common isn't it? We've got 4 in Newcastle...

Common as muck. Another reason why Newcastle was a Surprise Let Down ...

I'd say the opposite, I was in Norwich recently for a day, loads to see, do, good places to eat, drink, reasonable parking, a very fine cathedral.
Melton Mowbray certainly uninteresting, even more so for a non meat eater (although I did have an enormous teacake at the place specialising in pork pies!)

If you think Melton Mowbray is bad, the industrial estate at Old Dalby is pitiful, dumped in the middle of nowhere, nowhere to go to at lunchtime, other than the cafe, an old Army camp, it was a REME depot I believe

I always get disappointed by Oban.
Several times on nice days I have been at a loose end and had a wander around while waiting on a boat which met a bus at the other end. Every time I gave up and got an earlier ferry and just sat around at Craignure for an hour in the sunshine waiting for a bus.
It seemed too crowded and sleasy with downmarket day trippers.

Has Holyhead been mentioned ?
When we 1st went there (many years ago) it was a nice, busy little town. It is so depressing now.
Another place that suffered from the building of out of town shopping malls.

Yes just thought of another one. Its' yes youve guessed it it where I am now when I came over this side of the country It was a thriving seaside town now unfortunenatly due to out of twn shopping places and all the big influx of people that have moved here ( over the 35yearsive been here) what was a bustling seaside town its High st is mostly chairity shops and lots of emtpy shop premises , but I supose one could say that about many towns in England and Wales.
