Not at all. That's not what I said. I was objecting to the sadistic glee which SOME sometimes display on this topic, ignoring the very real issues behind the appearance/situation.
And levelling up my arse.
maybe you're mistaking a light-hearted creative slating for something more sinister... or must we take everything entirely seriously all the time?

Skipton. Used to be ace now a slave to traffic. Bit sad.

That just shows how much these things can be down to perception!
(from the Pleasantly Surprising thread):
Skipton.

Amazing centre for a week in the countryside - a selection of flat and vv hilly routes available - and a lot more gentrified than I'd expected, without horrendous prices! [this was 2020, BTW ... ]

Also, it's interesting how many posters complain about a town's traffic levels. I rode to/from Skipton, and always avoided the busier roads, so I was totally unaffected by traffic. If I'd travelled there by car ... well maybe I too would be moaning about the traffic!

How much does it cost to Oldham?

Fair point well made

Skipton IS nice. I thought it boring as a kid (have vague idea mum and dad sometimes sneaked us thro the border to yorks as holidays were different, stuff open in yorks that shut in lancs)

Skipton is pretty well bypassed if you do not need to go through the place but I suspect a lot of people use it as a break in their journey.

Yep as was kinda pointed out upthread, folks complaining about traffic clogging are very often clogging.
If i go to skipton it's by bus or bike, sometimes train.

Telford: Although maybe not the first-choice tourist destination of some people, I always found the place strange and the people a lot less friendly than nearby Shrewsbury.

Bakewell: Looks stunning, but some really odd attitudes from the publicans. Wouldn't ever go back.

When I was a younger I'd walk into many a pub in my hometown and the bloke behind the bar would scornfully ask Are you a student? instead of asking if I'd like a drink. Seems a lot of people that work in hospitality really aren't cut out for the role

I'd say the opposite, I was in Norwich recently for a day, loads to see, do, good places to eat, drink, reasonable parking, a very fine cathedral.
Melton Mowbray certainly uninteresting, even more so for a non meat eater (although I did have an enormous teacake at the place specialising in pork pies!)

I like Norwich too, just a shame it's a PITA to get to. The market in the town square is fab, as is the arts festival.

Granted - the Cathedral was interesting with a knowledgeable person guiding us. Castle was closed and anyway so tarted up (and being further tarted) it could have been built yesterday. Museum next door was OK but I'm not a big museum fan. Nothing of any interest in Norwich lanes but we did miss Elm Hill (I think it's called). Probably do that last check on Google Images perhaps as I won't be going back to Norwich.
