Why would you choose envy. I have no envy for a person driving a vehicle that does very poor mpg, poor handling, poor braking, needs more servicing as it has transfer boxes etc, is harder to park, more problematic to others on the narrow lanes, and does not fit with the climate problems.

My suv has infinite mpg, great handling, great braking, little servicing, easy to park, smaller footprint than similar internal sized saloon/hatch and fits well into the climate problems.

Yep. Definitely not allowed to have wheels out further than the body work.

I find the American pickups like the one shown particularly offensive. Some of the petrol versions are 10mpg round town or 14 on the motorway and that's driven steady.

I find it interest ing when people target one group of items forsaking all others. Personally I wouldn’t vote against SUVs because technically my current car is classed as an SUV. Yet it is smaller than my last estate car, is more fuel efficient than my last estate car, handles better than me last estate car, brakes better than my last estate car, most importantly tows the caravan better than my last estate car, so is safer for everyone else compared to my last estate car. It is slightly heavier than the estate car, but that’s probably due to the battery pack.
Why petition against one group of car type when others are worse?

It wasn't my argument, I merely responded to the request for data. Your denial of it is noted.

What the behaviour of people in Times Square has to do with this is a mystery to me.

I haven't advocated a ban either.

There are for sure many reasons for owning one; almost all are predicated on the owner's desires being more important than the impact on others.

Apologies. I only skim read the posts in the thread and (incorrectly) assumed you put the link up to support the SUV ban argument.

I think because we have the opportunity to do better and fashion is all that's stopping us. Our overall figures for mpg from cars should still be dropping and instead its reversing. The climate problem is getting more critical and we are going the wrong way. All so there is great many of them so it becomes the critical group.

They should definitely include pickups that are not fit for purpose and the dibble should do something about ones with wheels outside the wheel arches. Here is a pic of one such monstrosity that was taking up half the road the other day. There is no need other than vanity of which there is a lot here.

I was very surprised how few there were in Belgium and would love to know why. Just modest people ?

But by changing from an estate to a SUV I have done better, and fashion was extremely far done the list of requirements. I’m sure I’m not alone here.

So what car are you comparing with your SUV to get that contrast as I cannot understand how you arrive at that conclusion.

I drive a VW ID4. It's classed as an SUV. It has 6 inch ground clearance. It's electric so infinite mpg, great braking, little servicing, is easy to park and isn't huge in terms of its footprint. 4.5m long 1.85m wide and 1.64m high. The SC90 for example is 4.95m long, 1.95m wide and 1.77m high.

It's very similar in size to my previous car - a Renault Grand Scenic. just not quite as long or as wide, or as high. Although oddly it feels wider both inside and out than the scenic.
