Of course you are! And I had ignored you on the understanding you were talking TTB (Tommy turbo bollux:tongue:^_^)

Probably a good idea to wait for the first reviews just to make sure those gear changes are snappy and realistic but sounds good so far

^_^

Meh... I’ve been called worse.... by you... probably today....

One of my main criteria is getting something for this winter. So I’ll put my name down for one on the premise they’re rolling out this year. It seems like all of my major gripes about the atom have been addressed by tacx.

Mainly: Q factor, adjustable crank length, cassette ratio change, completely silent, proper brake levers, and most importantly the shifting is not only crisp but realistic in feel.

Bonus features: self powering (quite cool), USB ports(also self powered),
Fans that can adjust with gradient or heart rate, not the wattbike atom!

The atom looks nicer to my eye but that’s a moot point really. It’s expensive. But I’m selling my atom for £1200 (hopefully) so putting a positive spin on it that’s 1k on top.

I’ve got a guy coming round Thursday to collect the atom. So I’m very hopeful that goes smoothly. Once more reviews and comparisons start being made between the tacx, atom, and elite offering. I can only see the atoms value depreciating and £1200 will look like a decent return.

Yep, seems to have so much going for it.

Good luck with the Atom. FWIW there star some staunch defenders popping up elsewhere saying all the issues are fixed and that cannot do you any harm.

I don’t want to speak too soon but it looks like I have the wattbike atom sold. I’ve been very open with my own issues with the unit so hopefully it’s a good deal for both me and the buyer and he finds it a better fit than I have.

Going forward it looks like I’ll buy the tacx neo. I could wait to see how the tacx bike takes shape. But I’m not sure I’ve got the stomach to fire £2k + at it to be honest. The only slight issue I have with getting the neo. Or any other turbo trainer for that matter. Is that might mean putting top grade carbon on it, as I don’t have anything else right now. Hmmmm.... these be 1st world problems for sure!

But if anyone sees a good deal on a neo let me know please. I have BC membership fwiw. Seems to me people over value second hand neo so I think I’ll get one new.
You'll get 10% discount at Chain Reaction Cycles. I did!

That took it down to £899 for me, as its already reduced to about £990 or something like that against a list price of around £1200.

If your selling your Watt Bike, then you're going to make a big saving overall on the Neo. BTW I've been very happy with mine.

Anyhow, all the stuff above is what I told the wife............... of course she was hugely impressed with my logic!

I agree about the once bitten thing. There were a few things about the atom that niggled me such as not be able to change cassettes ratios. And I’d need to know tacx have a work around to it.

The turbo specific bike is something I’ve thought about. But then that would be four bikes to maintain etc. I think I’d get the trainer. Then get one of those sweat Catcher things and see how I get on with that. Then maybe think about a turbo bike if it doesn’t work out.
I did have one of my carbon bikes on the Bkool and then on the Neo.

I've now got one of my winter bikes on it. It's a titanium bike from Enigma, so less worry about the possible flex.

If you're going to build a turbo bike, then maybe building a winter bike is the way forward?

Yes it’s an odd one. I don’t think the delay in shifting has changed at all. But people say it has. Having a gear shift indicator on screen in Zwift has helped. It doesn’t change on screen instantly, then another slight delay for the actual shift. So it gives the impression that the shift is faster than it actually is. What has improved is the smoothness in transition between ratios. And I would say this has made erg mode excellent as opposed to quite decent.

This thought did cross my mind Del. But I concluded I don’t really want a dedicated winter bike. I’ll use the tarmac through the winter on alu rims if the weather permits. And I’ll have a comuter that I ride all year round too. But other than that if it’s raining I won’t go out I’ll be on the turbo. Or if it starts to rain and I’m out on a bike I’ll just wash it down when I get home. I like the idea of having a turbo permanently set up rather than having to muck about with the back wheel / take the bike from the ground to second floor when I want to turbo. I could have one of the ‘summer bikes’ permanently set up but I concluded these points sort of negate the argument for getting a winter bike.

Don't have to take off the rear wheel on this.

6-7% ramps are Ok on the SS, 10% for very short sections are doable but not easy. Anything steeper and we're talking shanks's pony (one for you to look up @Randyberlin )

Think more 15%-20% ramps around there

I didn't realize Wahoo had a few new trainers about to released. The adaptive fan is clever idea if it blows enough air in the right places. It's becoming a complete package with climb features, rocker boards, fans and now silent operation

Andy, you were ahead of the curve with your fancy high end nice wood finish rocker board. You could have been the one selling a $14000 trainer like the Fuorapista. After reading about the aerodynamics of dimples and seeing the new Zipp wheels with dimples, please do not be tempted to take a ball peen hammer to the Tripster.
