I don’t want to speak too soon but it looks like I have the wattbike atom sold. I’ve been very open with my own issues with the unit so hopefully it’s a good deal for both me and the buyer and he finds it a better fit than I have.

Going forward it looks like I’ll buy the tacx neo. I could wait to see how the tacx bike takes shape. But I’m not sure I’ve got the stomach to fire £2k + at it to be honest. The only slight issue I have with getting the neo. Or any other turbo trainer for that matter. Is that might mean putting top grade carbon on it, as I don’t have anything else right now. Hmmmm.... these be 1st world problems for sure!

But if anyone sees a good deal on a neo let me know please. I have BC membership fwiw. Seems to me people over value second hand neo so I think I’ll get one new.

Tommy couldn't you build up a cheap trainer bike for under £500 if you get everything off eBay saves you putting on your carbon bike.
I personally would go for the Neo and leave the Tacx bike once bitten and all.

For those who might be interested in riding in and around Bourg D'Oisans- Alp D'Huez, French Alps, I picked up a local guide to some of the nicest rides around. Ive scanned it so to encourage more visitors to the area and understand the rules of the road and safety protocols, aswell as riding some of the most famous mountains you see on the TDF from time to time. No payment or thanks, just a guide

If anyone wants just one pdf, PM your email to me

I agree about the once bitten thing. There were a few things about the atom that niggled me such as not be able to change cassettes ratios. And I’d need to know tacx have a work around to it.

The turbo specific bike is something I’ve thought about. But then that would be four bikes to maintain etc. I think I’d get the trainer. Then get one of those sweat Catcher things and see how I get on with that. Then maybe think about a turbo bike if it doesn’t work out.

They swap staff around both shops but the German guy is normally in the Norwood branch of a morning.
Tommy,
Lots of turbo announcements today including new kickr so perhaps look at those with climb? And their new fan^_^
Have you tried a NEO? I can get mine down from loft for you to try if you want. It has some sway built into it so perhaps means less stress on posh brittle bound to fail carbon?

Amazon and others regularly sell the neo for around £850 so keep an eye out- I paid that from amazon

Rocker plate and carbon bike is supposed to be ok. The new Cyclops plate looks interesting ... GPLama has done a YouTube review from eurobike2018. As has DCRainmaker.

Gp lama has a review of the interactive fan  frigging spendy
Yeah ... Better off with a Dyson fan for that money!

Maybe the solution is to sell the wheels and get some handbuilts. Hand built doesn’t have to be expensive. To be fair though if they say max weight is 120 they should of allowed a decent margin in that.
There should be a decent margin on the weight. My Hoy Shizuoka got converted to 11 speed with Mavic Aksiums (120kg rider+bike limit). I put 3 or 4k miles on that rear wheel, before going over to the GT Grade, without issue afaict.

The GT has 9k+ miles on the bkool classic/pro and the Jalco CR435D wheel seems to be ok.

As said previously elsewhere, by DaddyPig iirc, it's not the trainer/new super smooth road that I need to worry about. It's the unseen pot/man hole, drainage grate or step in road surface height that'll destroy the wheels. Paticularly a problem here because of the hub motor ;) .

A conversation needs to be had with the LBS Orbea dealer,. I'm seeing a big hole suddenly appearing in my bank account  :wahhey: .

Well I for one am relieved TB. It’s been at least a week since someone bought a new bike around here! seriously though I liked the look of your BMC. Not that I’m in a position to talk about buying n+1 bikes...

I can’t remember if I’ve put this link up before. But it’s really good for compairing frames to the bike you already have. You need to register your email or the figures they give you are false.
They didn't have the Gain on their list. I tried to add it last night and it rejected the table I tried to c and p. Got up this morning to an email saying it had been added :notworthy::wahhey:

I think I've found the right bike for a meet up. I'm 'Seriously' tempted. A customised Orbea GAIN M20i 19

I've just got to go to the local Orbea stockist for a chat .

@bobinski do you use Bon Velo. I'll be going to speak to them shortly.
Ha ha, you guys crack me up. For the meet up you're looking at new funky (and I must admit I do like the look of that bike) bikes and I'm thinking, if we have a flat course meet up I could bring along my £250 2nd hand single speed ^_^ Maybe even convince @TurboTommy to bring his SS too

Still need to get the wheel fixed on the Boardman following the freewheel mangle at the DD. Must get my @rse in gear and sort that out soon else I won't have a choice but to bring the SS anyway to a meet up

I have to say the new NEO bike is v v tempting. Looks great. My partner is recovering from a badly broken leg and further surgery, and cycling is the recommended exercise so... it’s an easy sell:okay:

You’d let her into your dungeon, I mean loft!? How would your second family feel about sharing the space?

Regarding the fan I’ve got a pretty sweet set up. I have 3 fans. Two smaller ones above the tv, one large one underneath. All individually controlled from a 3 way dimmer switch just to the left of my turbo within easy reach.

I wouldn’t get the climber thing personally but I can see the appeal. I like the idea of a little lateral movement though. I also really like the idea of a wuiet turbo.

I can wait a while as I won’t be using a turbo for a few months. But I don’t see how they can improve the kickr beyond the neo’s capabilities. Apart from making it more interactive with new kit that probably won’t appeal to me.

Haha! It’s all relative bud. I’m sure there are people on budget turbos saying the same about wahoo kickr owners ^_^.

As for me riding cheddar gorge on a single speed :stop:. Let’s just say it’s doubtful ^_^.

I don’t know how we’re going to plan this out. But if you guys want to avoid hills as much as possible then it sounds like we’ll plan a challenging route around cheddar gorge on day one.
