Rob, I never have a problem with pad alighnment on the qr Giant. I drop wheel in and squeeze brake lever to activate pads and tighten skewer and all fine.

Well if you can manage it then no one else has got an excuse! ^_^

Seriously though... I’m still sceptical about your rear mech. I thought Andy had it right when he said it was cable tension. But I guess if two people have looked at it and said the same thing it’s kinda hard to argue. And I suppose cable tension or failing spring results in lack of tension forcing the chain into the smallest cog. What are you going to do with the old mech mate? I’d of taken it to try on my bike but seeing as it’s been nicked... maybe send it to one of the other guys to see if it works on their bike. Or better still send it back to shimano with a note telling them it’s only done 7k miles. I genuinely think they’ll send you a new one if it’s one of the springs that’s gone.

I run trp mechanical discs on my commuter and the pads self align too unlike the bb7’s which were a pita and always rubbing.

Re the gears , feck knows. Seems like I should just get a new bike:biggrin:

Well of course you should get a new bike! this one is obviously defective, and once one thing starts going it's a long list of things that wear out and need to be replaced, one expense after another. You save so much more money buying a new bike ... Which reminds me I think my rear tyre is wearing, better have a look at those Hunt wheels

I don’t think I’m in a position to disagree ^_^

But throwing the giant into the skip might be a little premature

Sure but I suspect the Hunt’s may work out a little cheaper- at least I hope so.

Fair point . Although 1100g probably still equals very spendy.

I’m in the market for a set of wheels myself. I was planning to get another set of zonda’s. My others were beyond their last legs so I thought I’d get a set, use them as my back up wheels in France. And then chuck them on the commuter. But now the commuter has been stolen I’ve decided to build up a fixie to travel around London on. So... do I get a set of zondas anyway? And use them as winter and rainy day wheels? Or go for something a little more exotic but still with an aluminium brake track? Maybe fulcrum racing zeros or shamals. Hmmmm :scratch:probably need to decide in the next couple of days to get a set in time for France.

Hunt 4 season Aero's?

Ugo built me a set of H Son rimmed disc commuter wheels 3y's ago, dynamo front hub. A little overbuilt perhaps but great performers.

Hunt seem to have at least a 3 week wait on their wheels.

It might be a little late to get a set of hand builts but it probably would have been the best option.

My main criteria are probably around 1500g or under. Good hubs, stiff. And tubular compatible. Not Mavic’s.
