I saw one of those last year at Newark coming back from work flying low the pilot was chucking it a round like a fighter very beautiful sound and when in the air.

I live a couple miles from Biggin Hill. Every year we get various displays that over fly my house the Red Arrows, and other countries display teams, the Battle of Britain flight included. Two days of heart attacks as you don't hear them the first time because they are so low.

Quite privileged where we live. We get to see these old WWII planes throughout the summer flying over our house going to shows around the country. Spitfires, Hurricanes, Wellingtons, Lancaster's plus all the latest fighters sometimes with huge flight formations

We'd get the same when we lived in Beckenham. Now we live in Mere, near Yeovil and Salisbury, we get all the modern military planes and choppers. See Apaches and Chinooks most days - bloody noisy buggers!

What are they like when they fly by

That’s the problem with these things... they’re sneaky... I could be cycling along, minding my own business and within a few hundred yards there could be a first class package for the next bad dude...

There I am, taking a scenic photo of Garelochead out to sea and unbeknown to me, some dude is checking me out from his periscope..

i was going to suggest we all try and stick together but , to be honest, i don't want to be prescriptive about it. If anyone is feeling strong and wants to go for it then I wouldnt want to stop them. Its not often we get to ride closed roads. There will be lots of riders to tag along with.
There was an email this week with details of food stops etc so perhaps a loose plan to ride together, let people go and if realistic re group t the stops?

Dunno about others but I would aim not to stop at all. Never have whilst doing RideLondon.

Catching up on earlier discussion about how to ride the TOC Sportive - I'm also keen to ride as a group if possible, but I would also like to go at a reasonably good pace! It seems like a good opportunity to do both as it's closed roads. It's relatively flat too, so that should lend itself to drafting in a group - if anyone's struggling at all, they can just sit in the draft and let those with a bit more energy do the work on the front!

I think that should be the plan anyway - as we all know, best laid plans sometimes go out of the window on the day for all sorts of reasons so if that happens we'll just make it up as we go along.

There's 3 pit stops - apart from needing the loo (an inevitability with me I'm afraid!) I wouldn't think we'd need to stop at all of these for food would we? Bill, Adam and I didn't even stop at all the pit stops on the DD, and this is "only" 79 miles - on my own I would probably manage that distance with a couple of gels and maybe an energy bar if I'm well fed beforehand.

Having said that, if some people want to take it a bit more leisurely with plenty of stops, that's completely fair enough and we can do our own thing and meet up before and after
