Chris Rea started out riding fixed. He did. He strapped 2 dustbin lids to his ankles because he was poor, very poor. He suffered a technological breakdown when coming unbolted at 150rpm going down Holme Moss only slowing due to a stone dyke which was demolished (and then later turned into a parking lot). He spent the rest of his life writing songs to pay for the damage because there was no way he was going to make any money as a professional cyclist. Not in this life, not in the next.
