Chris Rea's appearance on TV's Who Do You Think You Are, proved so intriguing and detailed having traced a direct lineage of musicians, entertainers & singers right the way back to the Court of King Egbert (827-839) right through to modern times, inspired him to write the hit comedy series Blackadder, which was based on historical facts that genuinely involved his ancestors

In 1996 Chris Rea's outdoor concert on Marsden Beach, near South Shields resulted in the worlds loudest concert, he came off stage to visit the backstage bucket, as he was bursting to go, the audience were screaming for an encore, after washing his hands, he told the sound engineer to crank those bloody Marshall Amps to the absolute max, he came back on stage and went into his version of Cream's cover of Crossroads, the Solo was so loud it caused the top of Marsden Rocks arch to collapse into the sea, residents of Flensberg & Kiel ( Germany) reported a huge noise in the distance to local authorities, fearing a Tsunami was coming in, He returned in 1997 to the Marsden Rock, Rocks Festival and surpassed his db record by inviting special guests AC/DC, Motorhead, Girls School & Metallica to cover Thunderstruck with him, all four bands put in their own PA systems, the resulting decibels caused one of Marsden Rocks remaining stacks to collapse into the sea, South Tyneside Council banned the event after that, saying they'll be no town left if that b*gger keeps upping the volume every year.
