Not sure why this annoys you.
It’s just a function of the design and makes it easy to use and cheap to make.
Most people aren’t into hi fi, they can’t be bothered or don’t want to buy separate systems and plug them all in.
A simple one stop shop is a perfect solution to most people.

It’s a bit like moaning about off the shelf bikes. We all know there will be compromises in some of the components, but how many people, other than real enthusiasts are buying individual components to build a bespoke bike.

Good point, easy and cheap.

Wrt the bike thing though: I'm a bike enthusiast but still buy off the shelf bikes. I think it's a completely separate point with no similarities because you can get really good OTS bikes but can't get (afaik) really good all-in-one hifi (well, you couldn't back in the old days). So whereas an all-in-1 would be good enough for many people, similarly a Bike Shaped Object is good enough for many people too although no one on CC would likely get one, nor recommend one.

All in one 'Music Centres' are bloody awful, one transformer powers the lot. My ex had a cassette player that had 2 transformers (Denon DRM 600) one powered the motors whilst the other one powered the electronics.

That is particularly mean-spirited comment. Ranking Jnr is a great performer in his own right, and to be able to see live the legitimate successor band to the original The Beat with a family link is really lovely. We saw them at The Fleece in Bristol not so long ago and it was a great evening.

In a similar vein Simon Jeffe's band the Penguin Cafe Orchestra is being continued by his son Arthur, a fine musician in his own right. They play Jeffe snr's hits like "music for a found harmonium" and "telephone and rubber band" as well as a lot new material which Arthur has writte

Over complicating simple things. Like electric toothbrushes. There only needs to be one setting; start. I don't need 4 different modes for tooth massage, sensitive gums etc. More generally it's marketing rubbish where they think more functions are better.

The most annoying things of that nature are over complex cookers, particularly in holiday lets. All in need is "getting hot mode", yet I'm regularly faced with baffling menus of settings

The other issue is that when one element goes wrong, you likely have to dump the lot, as the 'tween box connectors are a proprietary ribbon cable rather than anything sensible. My ex-Mrs had a set up like that and whilst the sound was OK in fairness, the CD started playing up but there was no practical way of plugging in another so the whole lot got dumped in the end even though the amp part was perfectly OK and it wasn't really worth keeping the multiple items just for the radio

I had a spell in hospital a few years ago (over Christmas) and when I got out my wife proudly announced that she had bought me a new "hifi", which was one of those monstrosities, to replace my (admittedly rather idiosyncratic) amp/turntable/CD player/DAB separates.

It took about 5 minutes to establish that it didn't have any external inputs to allow me to connect deck/TV/DVD/etc to it, and it promptly went back to the shop.

The frequent misspelling of 'til on television subtitles. Till is not an abbreviation of until,
The subtitles are often auto-generated, and don't "know" from the context that it is an abbreviation so just put in the most common word thaht sounds like that.

and in this case, the dictionary is also wrong.

Dictionaries reflect changes in language, and common usage. If the dictionary compilers are commonly seeing 'til written as till, then that is what they are reflecting. (My autocorrect sticks an extra 'l' on 'til until I go back to fix it).

That will come as news to most, if not all, dictionary compilers.

Till predates until, but I don't think it's the use of the former that the OP is objecting to.

Your call is important to us.You are 34 th in the queue,WELL EMPLOY more staff if i am that important.

What a stupid comment
that would cost them MONEY - and although your call is important profit is FAR more important

which is why ordering lines answer quickly - especially places where you can always ring someone else
complaint and query lines - not so fast!!!

Annoying thing

shops thinking they can con people into paying more than they need to

For example - I have just been to Tesco
They have 2 types of Cocoa - the one in the Baking sections (i.e. posh people who do things like baking) which has a brown tin
and the one in the hot chocolate section - i.e. normal to poor people who drink Hot Chocolate and might "downgrade" to cocoa - which is in a Red tin

anyway - for some reason today they were right next to each other under the Hot Chocolate
Red on £2:15
Brown one £3:15

so - being me - I picked them both up and compared the labels
They are exactly the same
same ingredients and exactly the same energy and nutritional numbers - EXACTLY the same numbers

so - basically - the same stuff inside
didn;t even claim to be "more chocolately" or anything

but a higher price on the brown tin

I expect the brown tin to go back to the baking section soon!!!

(or -possibly - the red one to disappear and be replaced by the brown one!!!!)

You often find the same thing with nuts. "snack" packets are expensive, even more so in the cooking section, and then (usually Asian branded) packs are half the price and not even on their website for online shopping, so you have to go into the store to even buy them. Can't have you getting a good deal on nuts without getting you inside to impulse buy more stuff, can we?
