Trivial things that make you annoyed beyond expectations?

I would understand if it was a regular thing - but this was a one-off where the whole city was gridlocked. Also, I would give them more credit for sticking to their own rules if they actually stuck to their own. The communication is appaling, their homework doesn't even get marked, and when they give out detentions it's hit or miss whether the parents are notified or not. I could have been sat waiting in the past thinking he'd been kidnapped and phoned the police, but he was actually in detention and they'd not told us - and the kids aren't allowed to use their phones

I don;t know if the rules have changed - or if there are different rules in Wales

but when I was teaching if we gave out a 10 minute detention (technically 15 minutes but we made it 10 to give us leeway for things like kids turning up late) then we could do that without telling parents
But this was only because there were no School Busses going to and from our school so all the kids had to make their own way

However, anything longer and a slip HAD to be sent home to parents. SO this applied to the 30 minute detention given for missing a 10 minute one
etc

BUT - in most cases the 30 minute slip was sent home with the kids and no reply was required to show that it had reached the parents
In the event that a parent complained or something cropped up showing that the parents needed to know if the kids would be late - then the slips would be posted or text messages would be sent in addition to the slip
Hence that was all done via the Main Office

But we were told that legally we had to take steps for inform parents if the detention was ending more than 15 minutes after the official end of school

Most kids too whatever steps they could to avoid their parents finding out about ANY detentions - for obvious reasons!!!

We don't get any slips. I had a text once to say he's in after school detention, but it's very hit and miss. The mechanisms are all there for effective communication but they either don't use them properly or it's just human error

I suspect they would use text nowadays

My last school didn;t - it was a Primary which is different anyway
but also they were never sure what the parents' phone numbers were as they seemed to change all the time
especially for the sort of kids that got detentions
(we never asked why this was in case we got to know the answers!!!)

Annoying! Really?! Just ignore it if it annoys you! Don't try and garner support for censorship of thoughts and comments that you don't agree with.
Accy, much of what you write is amusing in some way.

But not this. Vaccine-sceptic opinions were banned previously. Such opinions quite literally result in misery and death.
Free speech comes with responsibilities.

Maybe those who rely on this vaccine to boost their immune system should/could try to boost it naturally, by better diet, exercise and keeping to an acceptable BMI.
An extraordinary assertion to voice on a cyclists' forum; cyclists are very likely to be among the healthiest in a population.

The people who "rely" on vaccines are those with medical vulnerabilities, usually through no fault of their own.
It's your choice to opt out of a medication, but others can see the benefit and value it.

Vaccine scepticism in unhelpful, unhealthy, unscientific, dangerous and extremely insulting.

Please stop.

Yes I can understand your annoyance. Although they might have been designing it with desk level applications in mind i.e. if it's going in a ground level socket and reaching upward to a desk or table, it makes sense to have the wire coming out the top rather than being downward facing and then bent around to stretch up?

Halfords cancelled my order but didn't give me a refund. It was only for £2 so it's not worth calling their customer services line to try and get it back.

BT charge 20p per minute from landlines. I've only got to be put on hold for 10 minutes before the cost of the call exceeds the cost of the item!

I take it all back - I've just received an automatic refund over 6 weeks later!

Those old music systems in an all-in-one box but the front of the box is split into sections to make it look like a separates system.

Not sure why this annoys you.
It’s just a function of the design and makes it easy to use and cheap to make.
Most people aren’t into hi fi, they can’t be bothered or don’t want to buy separate systems and plug them all in.
A simple one stop shop is a perfect solution to most people.

It’s a bit like moaning about off the shelf bikes. We all know there will be compromises in some of the components, but how many people, other than real enthusiasts are buying individual components to build a bespoke bike.

Over complicating simple things. Like electric toothbrushes. There only needs to be one setting; start. I don't need 4 different modes for tooth massage, sensitive gums etc. More generally it's marketing rubbish where they think more functions are better.

A £25 Sonicare is the best toothbrush I've ever had, making my teeth feel 'dentist clean'. One wonders what more you get for a toothbrush costing a couple of hundred quid?

My toothbrush does not need a phone app.

not need a phone app.

Certainly that last bit

a lot of things benefit from having an app
but a lot of other things have an app that REALLY don't need one

I saw a toaster once that was "smart" and was controlled by an app
WHAT??
you have to be there to put the bread in
2 minutes later you have to be there to take it out again
it is not like you can do it from the office or anything

and this one didn;t even have buttons - so to make your toast you had to find the app and start it up and then start the toaster

totally based on marketing and perceieved target market
I only saw that particular one around for a while - I presume it didn;t sell well!!!

Mine was £16 and still has 4 modes. Can't they just make one mode and charge me £10 instead!

Yup - My wife got me a posh one a few years ago and it had about 4 different modes - of which only the highest really cleaned your teeth
Main problem was that they had "improved" it by removing the light that showed it was low on power - and charging
Hence it would just run out with no notice - and when you pu tit on charge there was no indication that it was actually working
Hence, sometimes I would have it on charge for 24 hours and re-try and find it still had no charge because the plus was not in properly

This Christmas she got me a new one - 3 modes and they all work better
and it has a little light that warns you that it needs charging - and when it is fully charged
which is GREAT

except that they have made it look better by making it shiny
so when it is wet and covered in toothpaste foam then it is very slippy and difficlut to hold onto properly

sounds to me like the marketing department have too much control and the engineering department too little
