Very good point, not trivial at all.

on which point I saw this on Reddit today

OK - seems fair - after all - the community comments would sort it all out

BTW - do we need lawyers anymore - surely community comments on people would be more effective???

Weather forecast websites and newspaper websites that predict snow then show pictures from previous times when it snowed.

Weather forecasts that predict horrendous snow that will bring the whole country to the end
or that is what the Headlines seem to say

but when you read the details it turns out that they expect heavy snow - but only in the uplands of Scotland and Wales

It means that when you get properly cold weather for place like Widnes (and everywhere else I have lived) then people are less likely to take it seriously because they are always seeing predictions of problems which never happen around here

The ‘feature’ in cars where using the windscreen washers automatically gets you a few wipes…followed by a pause…followed by another wipe. I am perfectly capable of instigating the appropriate no of wipes for the wash..and the one after the pause usually makes things worse. A solution to a problem invented in a design office IMHO.

and in some cases - such as frozen windows - you don't actually want several wipes
one to check the effect is all you want
but no - the car knows best

Agreed (I was going to put that but I thought some bright spark would go off on one about ensuring antifreeze in wash, check before leaving blah blah)

But I did like the three flash indicators on my ford transit which are now missing on my Skoda Octavia.

Surprised at that. I thought virtually all modern cars had it (I presume you are talking about where you press the indicator stalk against the spring but not enough to click into place, to get three flashes of the indicator).

Antifreeze in the washer water doesn;t help much in my experience - the nozzles are so narrow and the tube so exposed that they freeze anyway
Obviously this does not mean the antifreeze that you use in the cooling water for the engine - just to be clear!

My wife has a terrible habit of not wringing out a dishcloth in the sink. I grab it to wipe tops down....and it's horrible wet and cold...yeuk, it really does feel horrible.

My partner has an awful habit of using a tea towel and leaving it in the sink. I then do not know if it is sanitary or not. I then have to throw it in the wash anyway just to be safe, but could in fact be washing it unnecessarily

Aye our calls are via a copper cable so far but it's 'fibre to cab'* at the moment, BT are coming round to fit 'full fibre' in early January (booked a while back) All the TVs in the house have been slowly expiring over the past couple of years and the replacements have been 'smart' so connect wirelessly to the hub and we're getting short of 'bandwidth' what with those, the phone, Maz's iPad, my Chromebook and her sons Mobile it is only just coping. Main TV in the front room is still 'hardwired' to the hub via the 'BT Vision' box recorder/player. Doesn't really bother me as I don't watch much TV spending most of my time in the dining room where my QUAD lives but I do get 'buffering' issues from time to time on this chromebook.

* Maz worked at BT in the 'Network Records' office recording where all the phone lines in the country went, to which exchange etc down to which 'cab' (green cabinet) they went to and down to which individual pole each line was connected to. This was all done on paper maps but her last couple of years were spent scanning these maps to 'digitise' the system.
Well the BT bloke came round but not a BT/Openreach engineer some sort of 'subcontractor' upshot is he went away muttering about needing a 'cherrypicker' to reach where the cable is and needing to drill into the wall to put a ladder up (despite not having a ladder on his van)

You mean the extra 'cleaning wipe' as it says in the handbook to mine . So what are the other wipes supposed to be then?
My first car was an Austin Metro which had a separate button for the washer, a brilliant idea as it didn't automatically activate the wipers when the washer jets were frozen, thus avoiding smearing the screen with crud. Nowadays it's like bl##dy washer squirt roulette!
I had a mk3 Golf that had heated washer jets and I'm pretty sure they always worked well enough though.
