Cheap padlock and wire them all together to the nearest car. Wear a bland hoodie so the CCTV is vague.
Then wait for the " what idiot padlocked trolleys to my car?" post.

Probably CCTV not such an issue in Germany.

It isn't: we're still protected by the "no photographs" rule.

I tend to push them into empty parking spaces.

People (inevitably drivers) who dump their trolley in the bike parking because they can't be bothered to walk the three metres to the trolley park.

Then the next person comes along and 'parks' their trolley by pushing it into the first...

And so on until most of the bike parking is blocked.
It isn't just a problem over there!! (As you saw nearly a year ago in that other thread.)

I have only seen it a couple of times since then. It dawned on me why not: There needs to be one trolley already there so the subsequent lazy trolley dumpers can do their dumping and get their £1 coin back by chaining to the previous trolley. I assume that the first lazy dumper is prepared to sacrifice that £1 to avoid the minute or two of effort?

It just struck me that instead of busking for petty cash, someone could offer to park trolleys for the £1 a time! Judging from how busy the car parks are at my local supermarkets, if only 20% of shoppers used the parker, he/she would probably earn more than minimum wage.

One trolley had a token in it, which I took as spoils of war.

More than minimum wage and tax free...

That was a thing in Italy, we visited Pompeii in 2009, at the supermarket a lad was taking the trollies back & got the 1 Euro coin for his trouble

Businesses asking you for a utility bill as a form of ID. Nearly all my bills are emailed to me. Often the utility bill has to be within three months or six months. I get one community tax bill a year. The only other paper utility bill I get is for water. I get one bill a year. It is more use as a form of ID than for informing me on what I spend on water.

One of the great advantages of being naturalised here, is that as a citizen I have a photo ID which is accepted anywhere to prove my name and address.

Many businesses here require two forms of ID, one of which must be a photo ID, the other must show your address on a communication from another business. The photo ID can be your driving licence, or passport, or your workplace ID, but none of those are guaranteed to have an up to date address on them.

That's the point of our ID; it's one place for all important information. You have to register your address as well, which is for pretty mundane things like voting and because we have a separate health insurance at work, which includes the journey to and from work. It also has other advantages.

Of course people do try and game the system but it's fairly unusual; the disadvantages of not registering are fairly high.

The Uk has always had a strong resistance to any form of compulsory ID, and so we end up with this sort of mish-mash.

Oh yes! Bring on a UK identity card and sod all the conspiracist doom sayers.

Including those twerps who resist ID cards but have store loyalty cards and give up so much more information for a few pence on a bag of dog biscuits.
Especially if they pay via their mobile phone.

I lived a long time abroad, held a residents ID card and it was used for all sorts of ID requests. Could even use it to travel within Schengen. Sometimes other EU countries.

New one this pm; thought I had M&S's self serve till scales understood. The food hall and Simply Food in Harrogate both have a set of scales at the entrance to the self serves to weight produce while the Simply Food at Knaresborough has the common scales with the self serve till arrangement.
The Ripon Simply Food had neither. Someone foxed until I saw a weigh here sign next to one of the six self serves. Turned out it was the only one of them linked to the scales. Obviously not expecting a lot of small purchases of bananas etc.

This is a point I alluded to some time back. The GLW doesn't drive. If she chooses not to renew her passport this year, how can she provide photo ID which appears to be a mandatory requirement for many transaction now - ?
