Would you like to hear my great idea for improving the Tour?

Is it no rest days??

Some years ago I rode the route of the tour in the morning befire the race arrived. Going up a small hill, a guy in full medieval jester clothes came and ran alongside me shouting incomprehensibly. It was quite fun.

He didn't have his arse hanging out.

That is a somewhat misleading synopsis of what happened......he won the sprint (which is always contested) and went ahead of Leipheimer with the bonus seconds he won. They had also both contested the intermediate sprint earlier in the stage

It was pissing with rain, so GC times were taken on first pass of Champs and because it was wet it was a messy sprint with a bit of a pre sprint break, which Vino joined and managed to stay ahead of the "pure" sprinters. So really it was slight anomaly that a GC rider was mixed up in the sprint finish.
What part of it was misleading? Vinokourov didn't win a bunch sprint as such - it was a bona fide attack, which had had a (small) gap to the peloton. It's unlikely that Vino would have been in the mix for the stage win if leapfrogging Leipheimer hadn't been on cards, and those two certainly wouldn't have been contesting the intermediate sprint, under normal circumstances. It was an exciting and interesting finish.

I was merely demonstrating that GC rivalries are not always put to bed before the final stage.

You sure it was the cycling you've been watching ?

That reminds me of some time in the early 2000's / late 1990's. I was at work and I went to find the latest news by putting tourdefrance.com into my browser (probably Netscape Navigator ;) )

I was expecting Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich but instead lots of ladies in various states of undress appeared in a very NSFW way.

The gentleman's agreement relates to not attacking the yellow jersey, not improving your GC to 5th place in any event., hence not shooting off when they do a photo call, or sipping champagne early in the stage

When Vino attacked GC times were already settled (slightly irrelevant) it was only stage honours up for grabs

Attacks on the final laps happen every bloody year, everyone would like to win the final stage FFS. Normally the sprint team bring them all back, but they misjudged it that year, Robbie McEwan, the first "pure" sprinter, came in 4th and I imagine somewhat pissed off.

It was misleading because you made it sound like Vino did something untoward, he didnt, he raced his bike like everyone else does. You made it sound like he specifically attacked Leipheimer, which he didn't, you also failed to mention it was bonus second only that moved him up.

Maybe that is what you meant, but just phrased it badly.

A colleague wasn't too hot at spelling. He once went to check his email but misspelt 'hotmail' and ended up with a screenful of gay porn!

No, they weren't. As even you correctly state, it was the bonus seconds for winning that moved him up. Go back and read what I wrote!

I did nothing of the sort. I stated the facts. You need to learn to read!
