I was slightly amused at commentators surprise at Latour coming second after they had earlier commented on Woods breaking forward completely ignoring Latour in the background doing the same.

Seemed to be plenty of viewing room at the finish; they should have arranged the sale of a limited number of train tickets.

We saw that in the flesh on Saturday, look a fun drive.

Having only viewed the tour in the UK previously, I was mazed how big the caravan was, they must have only brought a small element of it to UK, which makes sense as most are local french brands.

Also on a long transfer do they load the more unusual vehicles into Lorries, as I've never seen an orangina bottle or a statue of Poulidor hairing up the motorway¿?

I presume the logistics of getting everyone up and down safely would have been too much hassle. Plus there would have been very little to see as the caravan of vehicles were never going up. So it would have been a very boring few hours.
So it’s probably just easier to keep it closed.

Apparently it's a nature reserve. You're not even allowed to cycle up there.

Yes, I was a bit surprised to hear on commentary. It has been closed to cyclists since 2012 when they opened the railway . There's an annual sportive (La Montée du Puy de Dôme) which is the only way you can ride up. But very limited numbers (300 say some websites)

Hiking is allowed.

So Woods climbed it in 16.57mins
Pog did it in 14.45 mins

14:45! I'm sure it took me longer than that...

... and I was driving. Unfortunately stuck behind a Dutch car whose driver had never driven up a hill before.

The panoramic view from the top wasn't much to write home about either.

Got to the top of the Col du Tourmalet in 1995. Again, not on my bike. And had similar views.

Because cyclsits are sooo much more damaging to nature than hikers .... ???
Oh well, their rules - I'm sure their intentions are good!

It does seem odd but if it’s a private road they can do what they want.
I suspect they are more worried about the decent down narrow roads at high speeds with walkers in the road.
Going up will be at walking pace anyway for mere mortals.
