I wanted to watch this stage because I know the climb, not ridden it but know it. I knew they'd be no spectators nor team cars (though I'm not sure that 100% happened) I figured it'd be surreal.

I liked the olden days before radios when the peloton would catch the breakaway and think that was it, only for the breakaway group not to let on that someone else was miles up the road lol
I doubt anyone could do a "Thierry Marie" and escape for 234km these days

Until we realised it was closed to spectators I had suggest to the OH, we drive over to near-ish Puy de Dome, cycle up it and await the peloton. I showed her the pictures / street view and profile and she wasn't keen on the riding up it bit

We went to central massif in Oct hoping for some late summer sun! We ended up with snow!!!

I know. I was reviewing the stages remaining and there's so much stuff yet to come!
It was a bit of a gamble from Prudhomme. As it turned out we've still got a race on our hands after some very hard stages. But if Pog's recovery from injury hadn't been so good, then piling so much hard stuff into the first week could have backfired and left us with a bit of an anticlimax of two weeks of Jumbo riding defensively.

Bit of background here....they were fast 19.5 kph at 12% ! Headwind at the start and tailwind near the finish.
