Sports Direct often have very inexpensive gloves. I bought a pair of Campri 'skiing' gloves there for 2.99. Not waterproof but warmer than any 'proper' cycling gloves I own. (If it is going to be wet wear a pair of disposable gloves under them). Look out for the cycling gloves when Aldi and Lidl have their cycling kit for sale too. The mitts aren't up to much, but the full finger gloves have been good value (not as warm as the Campri ones though).
I got a pair of gloves last Nov or so, and they have been fine, though I dont think will last more than this winter out, warm unless sub-zero, £5.
You say money is tight, but this

or this.

Might be a better long term buy, I just got the first one and it's great compared with the cheap one I had.
The joe blow can be had cheaper, but Evans do offer free delivery.

I've been out do you can stop nagging me now ;-)

Really enjoyed it! Not exactly sure how far I went but I had to be back to go for the kids from school. Think I only did about 3 miles total but it's a start!

3 miles today, won't be long before you are biking to Hornsea, nice ride, chips on the not so sandy beach. You are in a great area for riding

I know this is not at the top of your list at the moment, but a cycle computer is a handy thing to have (to check speed and how many miles you have done)
On my mountain bike I use a cheap cycle computer from tesco's, I think it was £7.99

And well done for getting out on the bike:thumbsup:

Or if you have a smart phone download the strava app, its a good cycle computer alternative (and in my case bloody addictive)

Hehe I was gonna get an app I can't remember the damn name.

Will have a go at that! Thanks :-)

Would you honour every day even for a short while if possible or intentionally have a break?

Incidentally I got some brown bread, beans and porridge oats as I read on another thread they were good prep food to eat :-)

You need rest days, starting off I would not do more than three days in a row, but everyone is different. You will know when you have done to much as your legs will ache and be very heavy.

Porridge is good, must remember to have some in the morning. I take rest days like today I haven't been out, they help your body to recover.
It helps keeping a basic log of your efforts, though not import, its nice to look back and see your improvements over time, mycyclinglog is popular on here

Well done :bravo: for getting out, it feels good I know.
Sports Direct are always good for starter stuff and shop on line, I've just ordered a new helmet from Amazon. Aldi and Lidl are good when they have sports gear, I have running socks which I double up to keep warm. Most of my stuff is running gear apart from my Aldi Cycle Jacket £6 and matching top £6. I would invest in padded shorts they are a must, again from Sports Direct.

I'm looking forward to the weekend so I can get back out there again.

Well done Emma!
If you are just beginning to ride don't spend too much, wear what you would for a walk in the rain, then upgrade. As you get faster and further, you will need less clothing, one heats up quite quickly on the bike.
Ski sock or 2 pairs of normal winter socks are great for keeping feet warm.
