Well after getting my bike last year I still haven't been out on it! I've either had the kids or it has been snowing or something... SO tomorrow I am off to buy the final few bits of stuff which I need and will do a small ride out....

Tomorrows shopping shall consist of a water/windproof jacket, some leggins/tights, some wind/waterproof gloves and a waterbottle including holder!

I still need to get a puncture repair kit and pump or maybe just an innertube and pump. Oh and I need some tools lol...

Have I forgotten anything? lol!

You should probably practice replacing a tube at home in the warmth, but given you've not got round to a ride yet (tsk tsk ;)), I'd just get out on the thing and take some money for a taxi in the unlikely event it all goes wrong

Yeah, but I'm not sure how good they are, the only winter socks I tried made almost no difference so I just get cold feet

Its a hit and miss scenario. Now unless your generally cold then not a lot. I just wear winter socks or thermal thick socks and wiggle my toes once in a while to keep the blood flowing. Ride in a lower to keep the legs spinning snd heart pumping

Try two pairs of thinner socks, depends how far your going, I was out toward Selby (Sunday) it wasn't too bad. mind I do tend to ignore some discomfort
You still need a puncture repair kit, sods law states when you have used your two spares you will get a third.
And have fun

Thanks for the replies... Just got up and it is peeing it down, hopefully it will have cleared up by this afternoon!

I do think I need to practice the whole changing of tyre thing but for now will chance it :-)

Off to Beverley this afternoon in car so will pop to one of the outdoors shops for some socks. Went to the 'Go Outdoors' at York yesterday and was pretty disappointed with their range tbh... Oh well! I'll get there ;)

You obviously don't work in the East York-shire tourist industry with all this talk of wind, rain, snow and cold down there, sounds more like the Arctic.
I do hope you are not just making excuses, go on, get out on that bike.

Haha i'm not over dramatising, just pointing out that I dont really want to go out in weather that is too adverse as I dont have the correct kit. My initial kit will be economy too so probably wont withstand too much!

Hey I come from the era where as a kid we played out in bad weather. Days at the beach in the rain as my dad didnt like the sun (I dont either actually, am dreading summer! ). A bit of cold doesnt bother me but am not sadistic! Well, only when I need to be MWUAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA

You'll certainly need a pump if you've not got one - those tyres will be as flat as a pancake! I'd get a proper track pump, much easier to use than a mini pump - although in time you'll want one of those too. Mini tool is very useful as well

If you are looking for reasonable clothing and can wait for delivery - www.cycle-clothing.co.uk or Tenn outdoors

Best advise for pumps, £20-30 gets a good one.

Might just have to he a £10 track pump from sports direct...

Got my jacket by the way! Wind proof, waterproof and high viz! £35 bargain from mountain warehouse....

Just need some wind proof gloves! It's bitter out there!

Do halfords sell the gloves? I just want cheap ones for now as I've been made redundant from work and pennies are precious...

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Sports Direct often have very inexpensive gloves. I bought a pair of Campri 'skiing' gloves there for 2.99. Not waterproof but warmer than any 'proper' cycling gloves I own. (If it is going to be wet wear a pair of disposable gloves under them). Look out for the cycling gloves when Aldi and Lidl have their cycling kit for sale too. The mitts aren't up to much, but the full finger gloves have been good value (not as warm as the Campri ones though).
