Thank you so much for getting us home before breaking down. This is because we've driven 160 miles today and it would have been a real pain in the ass had you broken down 80 miles from home.
Because I'd forgotten to renew the breakdown cover...
(This is true - car limped the last 2.5 miles home, drawing much attention from passes-by. I've renewed the recovery this evening in case I can't get it to the garage next week...)
I can't tell the car this - it's Japanese, so doesn't speak English

I asked you when you allocated this enquiry about the current appetite for dealing with this sort of disciplinary misdemenour. You failed to answer the question then, and gave me carte Blanche to investigate it as I saw fit. I did so, and the member of staff in question answered all the questions asked giving reasonable mitigation. I recorded what she said. Now you don't think I have done a very good job because you think I allowed her to do so. Well, you know what? I really don't think it was a big deal, no one got hurt,and she was in a high pressure environment with crap supervisors. I'm certainly not going to change the tone of my summary. I deal in reality and fairness, and she deserves no more than a written warning. I'm certain!y not going to join some cretinous witch hunt, cos it just looks vindictive to me.
