Furthermore, Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire (no, not a spelling mistake):
Likes: I live within sight of Ben Lomond, the most Southerly of the Munros.
We have the Clyde on one side, the local crags on the other, and other hills round about, so we tend to get less snow and slightly better weather than other places nearby
West Dunbartonshire was one of the Council areas that voted Yes last September.
It you need to 'run for the hills', you can, with relative ease.
Dislikes:
We don't get as much spectacular snow like elsewhere (see above).
We are under the flightpath of many aircraft on Transatlantic services. It occurs to me that had the bomb on Pan Am flight 103 exploded a few minutes later, it could have been 'The Dumbarton Disaster'. One just hopes a crash like that never happens again.
We have the M.O.D., Aggreko, Polaroid, the Whisky Bottling plant, not to mention many other local employers, AND we are on the edge of a National Park...... And yet, the place still looks like a complete dump! It is quite dismal!!
The Cutty Sark was built by Scott And Linton in Dumbarton.... And yet, you never hear that bit.
The shipbuilding heritage is all gone, save for the 'Titan' crane in Clydebank, 'The Denny Tank Museum' here in Dumbarton and the aforementioned Cutty Sark which I think people assume originates from London or similar.
Dumbarton and nearby Clydebank built The Queens and other famous liners, Warships, trading vessels, the lot, we built for the world.... And yet, you would barely know it these days.
I could go on and on.
