pretty much anything that barks at me or chases me, I don't like.

If you ever came here, Cindy would bark at you until she knew it was ok for you to be there. Not liking her for that would be a pity, she is a nice little dog and is only doing her job of Security/extra doorbell. It isn't her fault.

That said, she wouldn't bark at you in the street or anything, just if you entered th garden/came to the door.

Derby, a mid-sized city in the East Midlands.

The Peak District is over there, the National Forest over there, and within spitting distance of my house is the largest park in the city.
The town is big enough to have just about all the shops of want to go in.
The city centre is within walking distance, and all the pubs, several of them very nice indeed, are quite close together.

Dislikes
Road surfaces can be very poor - the main road into town hasn't been properly resurfaced since we moved here.
There's no John Lewis, about the only shop I'd possibly miss.
Buses can be expensive, and so is the Midland Mainline to London
Driving to London to see the missus means the M1, with its 13 miles of tedious roadworks.

likes - (well paid employment, a past consideration for me now) history, arts, lots of green walking and wildlife within the city and even more just a few miles out, excellent public transport, winter weather not too bad, not many midges in summer.
dislikes - traffic is terrible and getting ever worse, countryside is pleasant but not amazing, nowhere particularly invigorating for a day out.

We live in Aylesbury and the only thing I dislike is that it is about as far from the sea as you an get. Having been sailing since the age of 11, not non-stop of course, we no longer have a yacht. Mrs Z only likes sailing on a sunny day when the wind is a force two or maybe three. A short sail to a nice anchorage, a picnic lunch and watch the world float by before a gentle sail back to the mooring. That's a couple of times a year. She won't entertain strong winds, rain or the cold. Fickle things women! We sold the boat and although I sailed dinghies at a local club for many years I've all but given up.

Motorbikes and cycles don't care where you are. Although I'd love to ride a coast road with a sea view instead of views over field after field, I've no real regrets about living here. I've always got Hoopdriver's photo's to keep me going.

I like Edinburgh, apart from the accent! We lived there briefly in the mid 70's (Gillespie Crescent, not far from The Meadows). It's the only place I've ever had a bike stolen. Then on a day trip a few years ago, someone stole half a mudguard off my MTB while it was locked up outside a shop for 10 minutes . (I think they tried to steal the whole front mudguard but the bracket holding the 2 sections into the steerer tube snapped. Had the bike not been locked up, no doubt it would have been gone). Always enjoyed cycling around Edinburgh; but that was in 70's levels of traffic.
