Why don't Grenadiers carry grenades?

(The guards or the trucks - sorry, "cars" .)

Originally, they did. They were considered an elite force because of the strength needed to hurl grenades, and the additional danger, as 16th/17th century grenades weren't entirely stable

But then as the use of grenades in siege and trench warfare declined in the 18th century, the Grenadiers were kept on as elite forces, but with a role similar to the regular army regiments. And by the 20th century, it wasn't much more than a historical name.

This is the second one in my lifetime. Like buses, wait long enough and one will turn up.

Same here.

I had to pledge to uphold the constitution and values of Germany to become a citizen. What happens if I pledged allegiance to the Windsors too? As they're German royalty, that means if I pledge allegiance to them, technically it's in contravention of our republican constitution.
